Read two of the Death's Head series books it's a lot of fun

You know when you get the feeling that an author is just circling the runway a little too much, and that the plan will probably run out of fuel before it comes in to land?

Even by Stephen King standards, this one is astonishing. I am 53% of the way through, according to the Kindle software, and a good 70% of what I have read so far has proven entirely superfluous. I'm sure the story will move somewhere at some point.

Not what I would usually bring home with me at all, but one of the volumes I borrowed from the library and started reading last night is Naomi Wolf's "Promiscuity"

I decided to stop reading 'Dragon Keeper' and put it back on the shelf. I've been reading it for more than a year and can't remember some of the plot elements anymore. Started 'The First Chronicles of Druss the Legend' instead.

I started reading "The Faith Healers" by James Randi last night. Carl Sagan's foreword is not altogether complimentary.

On Tuesday, Tom Doherty Associates, which publishes Tor Books, the world's largest science fiction imprint, announced that it would be making all of its e-books available in a DRM-free format by early July 2012.

You looking at getting an actual kindle device or using the Kindle software on a phone/tablet?

I love Kindle either way. I sold my Kindle device when I got my iPad because it was pointless having so many devices. These days I do most of my Kindle reading on my Galaxy Note. It's generally cost saving (cheaper than buying hard copy books) and you have quicker access to the books that you want. You get used to reading on an electronic device very quickly. The actual Kindle device with the e-ink is by far the easiest on the eyes, but you get used to reading with a backlight too after a while.

If I remember correctly, "Foundation and Earth" was a hefty volume. I trust that this series includes all of the "Tales of the Black Widowers".

Does this collection include his non-fiction?

It has been years since last I read any Asimov.

Only fiction. Yeah, the Foundation series was pretty large. Don't think the Black Widower series is in there (love those too!), only SF afaik. The cool thing is he prefaces and post faces a lot of his short stories with anecdotes, like when he published his first story, etc.

Earlier this year (at Dragoncon) the son of the late artist, Darrell K. Sweet revealed what his father was working on shortly before he died.




This was to be the cover for A Memory of Light.


When I saw this for the first time, two things came to mind

Min‘s  Viewing

Crown of Swords, Chapter 10, Unseen Eyes  

A man lay dying in a narrow bed, and it was important he not die, yet outside a funeral pyre was being built, and voices raised songs of joy and sadness.



Due to the untimely passing of the Darrell K. Sweet, the publisher had to find a new artist. They eventually settled on Michael Whelan.




If you are not familiar with his work, he did the cover of Meatloaf’s Bat out of Hell II


Michael did some research on the series and characters. He produced the following




I’m impressed but I do feel that the Darrell K. Sweet cover evokes a lot of emotion in long time fans of the series.


Sadly, we (South Africa) won’t be getting the Whelan cover.




This is what we’ll be getting.


I’ll do everything in my power to get the Michael Whelan version.

I'm also waiting for the last book. Currently rereading the whole series, busy with Knife of Dreams. Should be done before the end of the month, sadly the holidays are almost over.

I agree that Darrell K. Sweet concept was better. Can't see why they couldn't just use it like that. Would have been worth more IMO seeing that neither artist could finish before his death.

Speaking of Asimov, anyone here ever read Azazel? It was a collection of short stories centered around a man and his adventures with his 2 inch demon.
