Re: The beer thread
I tasted the first of my Xmas beers tonight: The "Campus". Belgium beer 7% alcohol. Ingredients: Water, Barley Malt, Hops and Yeast.
Quite a bit darker than the beer I'm used to:
Drinkable but to dark and "yeasty". The stella artois I had afterwards was way better.

Re: The beer thread
Here are some beers of New Zealand which I "sampled" during my visit during Sept 2011:
Mac's Gold All Malt Lager, didn't like it:
Tui Blond lager, not too bad at all:
Export 33, one of the best I had in NZ:
Steinlager (Steinie), a lot like Castle:
XXX (from Australia), was one of the best (and cheapest):
Monteith's Golden Lager (locally brewed in Dunedin), not too bad at all:
Well this is the ones I have pictures off. Quite a few more were "sampled". You would be quite safe sticking to "blonde lagers" or "golden lagers". The other local beers are too dark.

Re: The beer thread
Today I tried the "Erdinger". Brewed in Erding, Germany. 5.3% alcohol. Ingredients: Water, Wheat Malt, Barley Malt, Hops and Yeast.
Must better than the "Campus":

Re: The beer thread
I shall do. But it is bubbly for the next day or so. And wine. My female friends are not that keen on beer. I get headaches from wine.
Ah but I did buy myself a bottle of Johnny Walker Red. Not very expensive but it came with two glasses. Now that is a treat I am saving for tomorrow. Would have preferred the green or blue but not keen on spending that much on something that ends up in the underground system

As far as I know, to get anything close to that in Uitenhage ..... I shall have to either import or brew it myself.

Re: The beer thread
A friend of mine who was volunteering at the concert last night (surprisingly, I actually do have "friends") informed me that all of the cooldrink was sold out before he got on stage. Plenty of beer available, though.

That's no surprise - you're actually quite amicable IRL.Ron2K wrote:A friend of mine who was volunteering at the concert last night (surprisingly, I actually do have "friends") informed me that all of the cooldrink was sold out before he got on stage. Plenty of beer available, though.
What does worry me is why anyone would volunteer at the concert. And why they'd need volunteers to do anything.

I was referring to the volunteer vs paid help thing.Stuart wrote:Controlling thousands of raging beliebers would not require volunteers?doo_much wrote:And why they'd need volunteers to do anything.
But then again if I was 30 years younger I might also have volunteered to go herd a bunch of screaming teen girls.
NOT.

Re: The beer thread
Back to beer.
Had occassion to pass through Parys the other day and chanced upon 'The Pickled Pig'.
Quaint little place that sells a variety of craft beers. I will definitely revisit!

Speaking of- there's this place in Cullinan that I'd like to visit. We went the other day, only to find out one needs a reservation... at what is essentially a brewery...

@Doo: have you been to the Nottingham Road Brewery?
very nice and you can go on the tour on how they make those beers...
ask Syko about the beers, was there with him before the KZN meet of Dec 2011...
