Or a Casspir kitted out with limousine interior so I can ride in luxury and a water canon on top so I can wash annoying pedestrians away.

But what is the point of having a car if it is just going to drive itselfStarPhoenix wrote:The car in I Robot.....provided that it qualifies for a licence to drive itself.
So you could have all the money in the would, and you would by a Toyota. Why?DarkStar wrote:Toyota Hilux 3.0 D-4D, with ALL the extras (And a manual gearbox)
You could get Lamborghini to design a custom one off bakkie rather. Or get a Ford F250 with every conceivable extra on it.
I would have the new SLS roadster or a Mercedes 600 pullman

Because driving is boring as hell and if you have that much money pay for research to build a teleporter and waste less time travelling the point is to get from point A to B after allTHE_STIG wrote:But what is the point of having a car if it is just going to drive itselfStarPhoenix wrote:The car in I Robot.....provided that it qualifies for a licence to drive itself.

I'd probably buy one of those huge mining trucks that carries the gravel. Then I can go drive over a few houses, maybe even go kap a few donuts in a taxi rank.

Re: What car would you buy if money was no object?
errr no ... lexus is the smarter choice now a days Merc BMW Audi are for brand whores ... I mean 400k for a 100kw 4 tyres steering wheel and a roof. Add another 200k if you want to make them into the cars they should be. Besides these cars are fashion statements they wont last more than 5 years before they fall apart

A new Audi TDI in the same performance spec as my Honda is a good 40k - 60k more- and then it doesn't have half the creature comforts that is standard (nowadays on almost any new car). Want heated seats? Oh that's another R4k thanks. This is true for most 'luxury' german cars- BMW Merc, Audi... etc etc etc.

Re: What car would you buy if money was no object?
A lexus is possibly the most bland and tasteless car in the world
The German cars are expensive and there are many others that offer the same spec at a far lower price. Hyundai Sonata, Honda Accord....all of which are far more interesting than a glorified Toyota
They fall apart after 5 years, really . I have a 13 year old C class with 289 500K on the clock and still works perfectly, very little has ever gone wrong. And have you seen how many BMW E36 and E46's are still around as well as the various old mercs, whereas you will struggle to find an lexus from the same period

Re: What car would you buy if money was no object?
I don't really see anything boring about a 240kW, 400Nm "glorifed toyota" - and that's only the entry spec V8 motors they have, not even LFA's and such
And no, not all new cars fall apart after 5 years, it's a general misconception brought on by those not caring for their vehicles. The fact that your 13yo merc is still in such good condition speaks more to your (and your family's) view of looking after your possessions than anything else.
