Haha one thing you will find out very quickly is that live wallpapers kill the battery.

Samsung announces 1.4GHz Exynos 4 Quad as basis for Galaxy S3

Looking for something a bit more solid than a third-party benchmark? We can do that. "Already in production the Exynos 4 Quad is scheduled to be adopted first into Samsung's next Galaxy smartphone that will officially be announced in May," the horse's mouth reveals. Samsung boasts that the new 32nm 1.4GHz quad-core processor flaunts twice the processing power over its predecessor, thanks to its High-K Metal Gate (HKMG) low-power technology. The net energy savings? About 20-percent. "The application processor is a crucial element in providing our customers with a PC-like experience on mobile devices," explains Hankil Yoon, Senior VP of Product Strategy Team at Samsung, "Samsung's next Galaxy device, which will be officially announced soon, offers uncompromised performance and ground breaking multitasking features, thanks to Exynos 4 Quad's powerful performance and efficient energy management technology." Sammy says it's shopping the new processor around to other handset manufacturers (like Meizu), noting that the Exynos 4 Quad is pin-to-pin compatible with the Exynos 4 Dual (the brains behind the Galaxy S II and Note), which gives designers the ability to update product designs with minimal costs. Check out Samsung's full press release after the break.

Wow - the phone upgrade market is just as sick as the PC market. I still love my S2 - even though in less than a year it is hopelessly out of date

In a couple of years you'll pull your nose up at a quad core as you are playing skyrim on your octa core phone with 4 gigs of ram.

Does the Galaxy have voice recognision? Is it called Mario?

Maybe you can do something like "Mario, own those suckers" and it will self kill the guys for you. As long it doesn't reply "the princess is in another galaxy tab" or "It's a me, Luigi".

My requirements of a tablet would be the following:

Capable of displaying at least 24 bit colour
Capable of playing online video streams
Can has web browser
Responsive UI

Handy as it is, these are two things my Kindle doesn't do, and sometimes booting up my rig just to watch video clips on gametrailers, youtube or coursera seems like a waste of electricity.

Is that Galaxy S II feeling a bit stale? It's just about time for Samsung to name a successor to the massively popular smartphone, live at the company's Mobile Unpacked event at the Earls Court Olympic venue. We'll surely see a brand new mainstream handset make its debut, but what's not quite as clear is what other gadgets Samsung plans to show off in London. With defined divisions, the Korean device maker's "Mobile Unpacked" event title implies that Android phones will steal the show, so it's unlikely that we'll see an updated Tab or two. We have 24 hours and change to find out for sure, however, so bookmark this page to stay abreast of the news as it happens in our liveblog. The show kicks off at 2PM ET tomorrow (7PM local time in London) -- you'll find your local time translation just below.

It's been a while since we've seen a Kyocera smartphone for the US market, and if you'll recall, its previous two attempts -- the Milano and Echo -- didn't manage to sway many consumers. Today, the company is adding two new Android handsets to the deck: the Hydro and Rise. True to its name, the Hydro plays off of Kyocera's experience in the waterproof segment, and while it's not mil-spec, the phone's able to withstand submersion at depths of up to one meter for a half-hour. The Hydro is a CDMA handset, although Kyocera is keeping the carrier close to its chest.

Tablet makers are moving toward selling only models equipped with cellular radios and away from having separate Wi-Fi-only units, as the added cost of 3G hardware falls below $30, an AT&T executive said Tuesday.

<snip>

The key to getting more consumers to buy cellular-equipped tablets will be carriers offering data plans that cover more than one device, O'Donnell said. "All they have to do is open up those data plans," he said. "That'll solve it overnight."

Our cellular providers would love this. Great way to rake in money if they keep data plans overpriced.

How would they do this? 2 sim cards, one in your phone, the other in a tablet, same number? Is that possible? Or am I being dense here? 2 cards, 2 numbers- one shared data plan most likely.

It's 2 cards with a shared data/airtime plan
