7.4? Thats no aftershock, that's a second quake.

media reported it as an aftershock. It's also lowered to about 7.1 due to different sources.
My bud in Japan was kinda going crazy on facebook. He probably still shook up a bit over the huge 9.0 one.

Also out of interest check out this http://www.niceone.org/lab/quakes/
click on the right hand bottom where it states energy yield. Aparantly the 9.0 quake reached all the way to africa.

"Integrity" and "integer" both contain a Latin root meaning "whole; complete." The root sense, then, is that people may be said to be acting with integrity when their beliefs, words, and actions have a sense of unity or wholeness.

Actually Tribbs, not sure... i have never followed this type of thing. Perhaps the climatologists or scientists on the forum can research it for us?

My friend in Japan said they used to get earthquakes now and then but nothing really bigger than 6.0 He can't explain how the 9.0 felt. Although that one didnt affect him much, on facebook it is clear that these >6.0 earthquakes are starting to get to him.

japan is earthquake central. has been since before recorded history. they enjoy >1200 quakes a year. they've experienced much worse than this... some quakes/tsunamis have wiped entire cities off the map...

acting surprised over earthquakes in japan is like being horrified to discover that the sea is wet...

the world enjoys anywhere upwards of 30, (<-thumbsuck), significant quake events a day... especially around the so called "ring of fire", (pacific plate)...

any perceived increase in frequency is exactly that. perception - mostly due to improvements in communication, the press' addiction to scaremongering for sales and the problems which come about because of a rapidly increasing population footprint....

not to detract from the human tragedy, but these are not unquantified risks... moving anywhere nearer the san andreas fault line means you don't get to act surprised when your house gets swallowed whole...

i heard once that alaska is one of the best spots to visit if you want to get shaken... :D

Asia News wrote:An earthquake measuring 5.4 struck central Japan today, injuring seven people. However, there were no casualties or serious damage. The epicentre of the quake, recorded at 9.16 am local time, was located in Nagano Prefecture, about 120 km from the capital Tokyo. The Japanese Meteorological Agency reports that no tsunami warning was launched after the shock of an initial 5.5 magnitude on the Richter scale, since lowered by a decimal point. Most of the wounded were hit by debris or objects falling from houses and roofs, but none of them are in a serious condition.

Dear Mother Nature, please stop abusing Japan. I know they are a perverted bunch but they keep me in business. Thank you.
