this is news?

i always thought this was common knowledge... speed ticketing is a revenue stream... the legal crud around it has always been about protecting that revenue and the jobs behind it...

Plus 1 to Rusty. TopGear pointed this out ages ago.

I solved this issue by not going too fast anymore.

I think you are missing the point. We all know that speed cameras are a cash cow, even the video notes that, but it goes further to illustrate that they do not serve the other purpose, to save lives.

Watch the video again. The argument is: The best speed to travel is with the traffic; and ergo, that Speeding kills, not speed!

That's my interpretation.

I just don't exceed the speed limit. Most Capetonians do the same - except those in the vicinity of Blaauwerg Road in Table View...

this has always been the case... the "saves lives" argument was only there to floss over the fact that this would be legally sanctioned extortion to subsidise the RTI... so it would be more accurate to refer to it as "speed tax"...

if they really wanted to save lives they'd be out there correcting the behaviours which are actually contributing to the death toll... but you can't capture those on camera or make money off of them... yet...
