Nope... I say if someone is intelligent enough to be in a position of power they should be intelligent enough to make their own damn coffee and clean their own office. I'd say for a floor with 20 offices you need max one cleaner which could during the course of the week dust and vacuum and keep the kitchen clean. The problem is not making coffee and cleaning desks - it is toilets, kitchens, showers, break rooms etc...
Shared resources like these need fairly constant supervision by cleaning staff as people do not hold themselves accountable for the upkeep of these areas the same way they would their desk or work area.

Well I don't see a problem in our current work environment. We have an open plan with two sets of rest rooms, about 50 staff members on our single floor and we have one cleaner for the floor. So maybe you just didn't work with the best of people yet

No the people I work with here are fantastic, the company I worked at back in SA was atrocious...
Especially the operators who used to work at night and on weekends...
You should have seen the state of the kitchens on a Monday morning - disgusting!

That kind of thing makes work a nightmare...
I can tell you horror stories from when I used to work night-shift with these guys. We were different departments, but we shared a kitchen and a break area and veranda.
One time I left my coffee mug in the break area and went away to take a call and when I got back one of the guys had extinguished his cigarette in my cup and left his stompie floating there.
Then there was the countless times I (and others) brought food and left it in the fridge to come back a few hours later and see it gone. I wont even talk about the conditions of the toilets over the weekend as you wont believe me.
