As I said earlier Honda has the spontaneous combustion problem ;). A car is a car is a car. As rusty said:

Any car manufacturer will have batches of cars that have problems some more than others. It's all down to personal choice and what you can afford.

and, given where we live, hijack risk... nobody wants hyundai :D

i know someone who works for SAB and also travels a fair bit, (QA, so he has the dream job of travelling SA drinking for a living)... hijacked no less than 3 times this year, (only one was violent)... still won't follow the one piece of advice which would go some way to preventing this.... stop buying BMW, chump...

ford and opel make crud... seriously... owned 2 opels where pieces were falling off within 3 months... couldn't dump the second one soon enough...

ford is more family experiences but their product, and after sales service, were simply... blegh... wouldn't touch if you paid me...

Yea BMW and Hyundai are a serious hijack risk, and so are VW Polo's, but we used to have an Opel Astra 160IE (1997) and it was a lovely car very well made and fast but then I think you are referring to the local made ones they do suck. To avoid a hijack buy an uncommon car like and Alfa and I see your chances of being hijacked in a Merc are quite low :D .
