Is the pencil mightier than the sword?

Post by Ron2K »

Slashdot wrote:According to UPI: 'A Massachusetts school district superintendent said a memo banning sixth graders from carrying pencils was written without district approval. North Brookfield School District interim Superintendent Gordon Noseworthy said Wendy Scott, one of two sixth-grade teachers at North Brookfield Elementary School, did not get approval from administrators before sending the memo to all sixth-grade parents, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported Thursday. The memo said students would no longer be allowed to bring writing implements to school. It said pencils would be provided for students in class and any students caught with pencils or pens after Nov. 15 would face disciplinary action for having materials 'to build weapons.'

Umm... So American children are the next terrorist? How are they going to catch children with pencils? Get the TSA to do pat downs on children? Would that then be considered child molestation?

Well KK the pens you can keep it is the pencils that is the issue. After all even the Russian space program noted that the pencil is better than a pen and since the pen is mightier than the sword it reasons to stand a pencil is mightier than both of them

@DP: Yes exactly my point. This whole thing is hilarious to say the least. Best to make jokes about it.

A first grade teacher was trying to stimulate creative thinking in her pupils. She stood in front of the class with her hands behind her back and said, "I'm holding something behind my back. It's round and it fits in the palm of my hand. Who can guess what it is?"

Billy's hand went up and he asked, "Is it a baseball?"

"No, Billy," replied the teacher, "It's not a baseball. But you're thinking, and I like that."

Suzy's hand went up and she asked, "Is it an orange?"

"No, Suzy," replied the teacher, "It's not an orange. But you're thinking, and I like that."

Then Johnny spoke up: "Hey, teach, I don't know what you got in your hand, but I got something for you in my pocket. It's long and hard and pink on one end."

Shocked, the teacher cried, "Johnny, that's disgusting! You march yourself to the principals office right this instant!"

"Hey, relax," said Johnny. "I was talking about my pencil... But you're thinking, and I like that."

Nope = its like anywhere.... you have loads of people with common sense - then you have a few that makes the rules. Those few get their following or cults or churches or political parties and turn the rules into law.

All one see is this "law" or rather lawlessness to us. Just look at out own country, and you will see similarities. The problem is that too often those non-common sensed people are the leaders and they are followed by the non-common sensed people from other countries who believe they have seen a good think that should be implemented.

Prohibited pencils will not really be an issue in SA - if you own a pencil the chances that it will get stolen before you are caught are far greater than anything else. *wry smile*
"Integrity" and "integer" both contain a Latin root meaning "whole; complete." The root sense, then, is that people may be said to be acting with integrity when their beliefs, words, and actions have a sense of unity or wholeness.

Seems like these kids have a lot of anger issues, using pencils for creating weapons. Parents and children are equally to blame in this. Parents, for not educating their children properly but on the otherhand parents can't always help the way their children turn out.
