Re: ultimate motorbikes
Thanks guy! So far still loving it. Everytime I walk by it I get a massive smile on my face.
Re: ultimate motorbikes
W1K - that's awesome You are clearly a rider of style and taste
Vale Dreamtime! It is slightly different to my dreamtime replica though...
Will be interesting to see if you get any colour fade on yours. My lumo orange colours have faded badly but the rest of the colours have remained solid after a years riding in the sun..
Here's the linky to my helmet..

Re: ultimate motorbikes
That's because yours is a GP-Tech and mine is a K3. I'm really impressed with the K3 though. Most reviews put it very close to the GP-Tech and other $500+ helmets for much much less.Screeper wrote:It is slightly different to my dreamtime replica though...
Plus, your Dreamtime is hand-painted in Italy if I'm not mistaken.

So they told me when I bought it.WiK1d wrote:Screeper wrote: Plus, your Dreamtime is hand-painted in Italy if I'm not mistaken.
I got number 407 of the 2500 made. My girlfriends Dreamtime is number 48 - oooo so close to the magic number 46
I didn't even know the K3 came with the Dreamtime design - looks amazing I must say.

The K3 Dreamtime was only released a few weeks ago. I got one of the first to arrive in the States.Screeper wrote:So they told me when I bought it.WiK1d wrote:Screeper wrote: Plus, your Dreamtime is hand-painted in Italy if I'm not mistaken.

Re: ultimate motorbikes
I like the look a lot WiK. Looks really well done. Hope you enjoy it
I popped into the RACE! store at Kyalami this morning. First time I've been there. All I can say is "Wow!". There are some really high-end bits of equipment floating around that place.
Order myself a Dainese jacket and some gloves Should arrive next week if my order reaches Italy before they dispatch to SA on Monday.
Cheapest bike they had on display was a 'tweaked' Ducati 1198 SP for R250k - all the way up to a refurbished Jakub Smrz superbike that he rode last year.. yours for R750k.
If you haven't been before I recommend you go and have a look. It's not a big store but the merchandise they've got for sale there is beyond cool

Re: ultimate motorbikes
I haven't been there. But I personally know one of the owners, Wim. Wheelie monster that guy is, and not a bad racer either!
They've got an awesome setup there. They actually painted Max Biaggi's race fuel tanks when they were here for WSBK this year as Biaggi had a spill or two around Kyalami.
They also had one of the first Ferrari 458 Italia's that got in SA there on display a few weeks ago.
I wasn't aware about the Smrz Duke though, that's awesome! I think I'll go trade the Trumpet in
That place is way too rich for my taste though

Re: ultimate motorbikes
I seem to have to worst luck ever when it comes to bikes.
My first bike, a Yammy DT 180 worked fine until it lost all spark. Two months and R6000 later we got it up and running.
I bought a 1981 Kawasaki Z550, and not two weeks later that thing stuffed out (ran low on oil and I didn't realise). The 550 is still running but there's a loud tapping noise that we don't know what it is. It's been to 4 mechanics who don't know what the noise is.
On Thursday (the 6th) I bought a 1984 KLR600 in mind condition. Bike was running perfectly (always started no hassles). Even last night it was fine when I went to bed.
This morning, I wheel it out to kick-start the beast. I crank it once to bring the piston to TDC, raise the kicker and then nothing. It feels as though the engine's seized. I could not get it to turn over whatsoever. Even trying to run it down the hill, it would just lock the back wheel and slide. It still has oil - topped it up yesterday morning.
This sucks. I've been through 3 bikes, all of them costing me big bucks.

Time for something newer
Crappy problems though, but sadly I'm so mechanically disadvantaged it's not even funny.

Re: ultimate motorbikes
I'm guessing that KLR was anything but mint. Seems someone saw their troubles coming and sold you as bunch of problems? Or maybe you just have really bad luck- I'll be honest though- I don't think it's bad luck. Sounds like maintenance neglect.
As to what's wrong, anybodies guess. Wik's right though, time for something new. Expensive, yes, but at the rate you are spending money fixing broken bikes, I'd rather buy something new and not have to struggle with all those problems.
At any rate, good luck. Hope you come out on top.

Re: ultimate motorbikes
The odd thing is though, I bought the KLR through the agents (it was a trade in from the previous owner).
Motorcycle Center gave it a clean bill of health, I had another friend come in and investigate and also gave it a clean bill of health.
The only thing I can think of is a hydrolock?

Re: ultimate motorbikes
6th, as in 6 January 2011? Clean bill of health?
Do you have a bike trailer? Cause I would be all over that stealership.
Edit: never heard of hydro lock, then again, never had a kick-starter on a bike. But if this has anything to do with compression, try and remove the spark plug just to see if you can turn the motor?

Re: ultimate motorbikes
Oh, don't worry. It's currently back in the shop and they're tending to it.
My only worry is that they can't fix it today and that leaves me without transport. And no ways am I getting back into those taxis.
And yes, 6th Jan 2011.
If they start sending me a bill I'll just give them the keys and say "Give me my money back". The bike cost R10 000 in the first place (which was a bargain, all things considered)

Re: ultimate motorbikes
A good 70k + for 'n decent one in good order- 1000cc (600cc from 50k+ I would guess).
Ask them for 'n loan bike while they tend to your bike. They should have done their jobs proper in the first place.

Re: ultimate motorbikes
Aha! We have an update!
They freed up the flywheel and the bike then started just fine, however they decided to strip it just in case.
Turns out something was wrong with the balancer shaft and they're busy sorting out as I type this. Hopefully I should have her back before the end of the day.

WiK - awesome suit dude. Where did you get it from and how much did it set you back?
Looks sweet combined with your Triumph..
DarkStar - glad they sourced the problem. Hope it doesn't give you any more grief when you get it back.
