I'm always alive bruva, just not always visible
I'm a southie too Stig, hence my question and dialect.
In Midrand now though - definitely got some weather outside.

Fortunately, lightning is an extremely rare occurrence down here.

as lightning occurs more on the highveld, the NE parts of SA why don't the people there pay more for insurance than the people in the SW, who get less lightning....

That has happened to me before, but because I had a Giagabyte mobo it lived on even though the LAN port and controller chip were fried from the encounter.KatrynKat wrote:yeah... it can also jump from an open plug to your computer...SykomantiS wrote:Famous last words...THE_STIG wrote: at least my PC has a surge/lighting protection plug .

Re: English Spam Thread and General Rubbish
Actually, it depends where in the Western Cape you are - the far Karoo interior does the whole lightning thing. Admittedly, they get a lot less rain than the Highveld does.
(And for the uneducated, the Western Cape is not just mountains and fynbos. Anyone who has driven the N1 between Laingsburg and Three Sisters (the Western Cape/Northern Cape border) knows exactly what I'm talking about here.)

yes, i was talking about your area....
sometime next year, as soon as i get the data from SAWS who are a stingy lot, i will show you all exactly where the most lightning occurs in RSA

I moved from the South some years ago stig...still miss it though
You forget the fact that in Gauteng, not everything is rusted. Whereas on the coast, even the plastic rusts, hence the insuranceKatrynKat wrote:and that is the reason for my project...Ron2K wrote:Fortunately, lightning is an extremely rare occurrence down here.

I suggest signing on to a forum that has a few actuaries as members. They are the ones who work these things out.as lightning occurs more on the highveld, the NE parts of SA why don't the people there pay more for insurance than the people in the SW, who get less lightning....

Re: English Spam Thread and General Rubbish

Re: English Spam Thread and General Rubbish
i first gotta do the whole analysis of the data, and draw up the maps and find out why more lightning occurs on the highveld than the cape, and then present it to the insurance companies...

Re: English Spam Thread and General Rubbish
It does not matter what you do it will still corode if you dont use it, and you car will too especilay if it is an old Mazda.UrBaN wrote: That sounds expensive and horrible dude.

Re: English Spam Thread and General Rubbish
Will you be using topographical maps? Because maybe part of the reason is because it is closer to the clouds? Jo'Burg is 1753m closer to the clouds on average than Cape Town is as an example..and draw up the maps and find out why more lightning occurs on the highveld than the cape

I was kidding Stig - the water would add to the corrosion and rusting...THE_STIG wrote:It does not matter what you do it will still corode if you dont use it, and you car will too especilay if it is an old Mazda.UrBaN wrote: That sounds expensive and horrible dude.

Wouldn't the fact that it is less humid here, thus more static have something to do with it too?
