I'm always alive bruva, just not always visible

I'm a southie too Stig, hence my question and dialect. :)

In Midrand now though - definitely got some weather outside.

Fortunately, lightning is an extremely rare occurrence down here.

Although, we get persistent rain and an icy cold wind during winter... :P

That has happened to me before, but because I had a Giagabyte mobo it lived on even though the LAN port and controller chip were fried from the encounter.

Actually, it depends where in the Western Cape you are - the far Karoo interior does the whole lightning thing. Admittedly, they get a lot less rain than the Highveld does.

(And for the uneducated, the Western Cape is not just mountains and fynbos. Anyone who has driven the N1 between Laingsburg and Three Sisters (the Western Cape/Northern Cape border) knows exactly what I'm talking about here.)

You forget the fact that in Gauteng, not everything is rusted. Whereas on the coast, even the plastic rusts, hence the insurance :)

I suggest signing on to a forum that has a few actuaries as members. They are the ones who work these things out.

@Kalster: This is the spam thread. Logic and actuaries are unwelcome here.

i first gotta do the whole analysis of the data, and draw up the maps and find out why more lightning occurs on the highveld than the cape, and then present it to the insurance companies...

Will you be using topographical maps? Because maybe part of the reason is because it is closer to the clouds? Jo'Burg is 1753m closer to the clouds on average than Cape Town is as an example..

I was kidding Stig - the water would add to the corrosion and rusting...

Wouldn't the fact that it is less humid here, thus more static have something to do with it too?
