Vuvuzela claims first victim

Post by doo_much »

Is there a doctor in the house?
Insurance saleswoman Yvonne Mayer, 29, was unable to speak or eat for two days after ripping her windpipe when she blew the three foot horn during a street party in Cape Town.

The next day shocked doctors diagnosed her with a ruptured throat and ordered her to rest it completely to allow it to heal.

The bizarre injury is the first known vuvuzela-related accident since the World Cup kicked off last week.

A surprising amount of modern pseudoscience is coming out of the environmental sector. Perhaps it should not be so surprising given that environmentalism is political rather than scientific.

eish
"Integrity" and "integer" both contain a Latin root meaning "whole; complete." The root sense, then, is that people may be said to be acting with integrity when their beliefs, words, and actions have a sense of unity or wholeness.

haha, I read that article. The lady wasn't blowing the vuvuzela, she put her lips around and was screaming through the thing in a "clearing your throat" sort of way. Trying to mimic the sound with her voicebox instead of blowing air through tight lips. :D

Man I love the vuvuzela. So many frikking uses! Make noise, drink through it, make noise, weapon, make noise, pretend guitar, make noise, pretend telescope, make noise, snorkel, I can go on an on. :D
But seriously, I really like the vuvuzela and am not irritated by the sound.

Well, at least it would move from friend to relative. It's a step closer to the truth.

Zim man loses eye over vuvu

Harare - A Zimbabwean man has lost an eye in a fight over a vuvuzela, a state daily reported on Thursday.

The man, who was not identified, was attacked at his home in Zimbabwe's second-largest city of Bulawayo by three teenagers after he refused to give up a vuvuzela the three claimed belonged to their friend.

"One of them allegedly kicked him in the chest and when he fell to the ground the others also assaulted him," the newspaper reported.

"He sustained a swollen right eye that had to be removed," it said.

The man was still recovering in hospital. His alleged attackers appeared before a magistrate's court in Bulawayo and were released on US$100 bail.

The vuvuzela has been the defining sound for the Soccer World Cup in neighbouring South Africa while in Zimbabwe it is popular among viewers at fan parks.
