It would have been interesting to see hey. He would have done a much better job than Mark Wahlberg...though I do wonder if changing an actor would have saved that movie from disaster...wowzors it was bad...

Don't think so. The story sucked as well. :?

Mark Wahlberg's worst movie by far IMO is Planet of the Apes. Now THAT stunk!

His best, and another brilliant movie, was Boogie Nights.

Mark Wahlberg isn't a bad actor, he was just very expresionless in that movie. Kind of like Keanu Reeves in The Matrix.

True. I liked him in The Big Hit and The Departed etc.

Can't remember if I watched The Big Hit and only saw bits and pieces of The Departed. Looked awesome, though.

the happening
I think that sits squarely on M Night's shoulders. How much further downhill can his movies go?

Yeah, The Happening was kind of bad...

But what you have to remember is that it would have sucked, regardless of who the actors were. No actor, no matter how good, can make up for a poor movie. They can make it bearable, yes, but not good...

The Big Hit and Departed were entertaining, and Boogie Nights is a classic!

Hmmmm, I'm with rusty, I don't rate Mark as a good actor. He appeared in some good movies, which leads you to believe it was him, but nah...

Keanu as Neo on the other hand, I don't think it was a stellar performance, but I don't see another actor pulling that role off as well as he did, something just fit.

Of new movies, I'm a big collector of classics, and find it hard to touch such classics as my favourites like One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, A Clockwork Orange, Psycho, Taxi Driver, Godfather etc... I know it seems old, but "meh". The most I find nowadays are the films by Scorsese like 'The Departed', and more recently 'Shutter Island'.

Something for fans of the director, or artist, is 'No Direction Home: Bob Dylan'... Man alive...

And... Something coming soon, 'Sinatra'... :-0

The reason you like so many old movies is simple: They don't make them like they used to. Today it's all about churning out as many movies as you can as quickly as you can, nevermind whether it sucks or not.

Still want to watch Shutter Island.

Shutter Island was good, but in the end it was a pretty run of the mill story imo and I could guess the ending. Good acting and atmosphere though.

The trailer looked good. But then again, they always do. :)

Will probably go watch Toy Story 3 in the week.

So what's the big deal with 3D? Best part of the whole experience was the little ad thingy with the flying balls telling you to put your glasses on now. Wholly unimpressive.

spent the past 2 weeks catching up on the movies I've wanted to see. Book of Eli was average imo, Mutant Chronicles was meh, keep in mind that I'm a scifi fan and it didn't deliver as far as I'm concerned. just watched Boondock Saints 2 and the movie was also pretty meh but near the end there is a sequence with Rocco delivering a speech, gave me goosebumps. Gonna watch Law abiding citizen now.

Watched "The Reader" over the weekend. Not my usual taste, but I thought it was a truly original story and had great performances by Ralph Fiennes and Kate Winslet.

Can't be anything other than a good movie then. Will definitely check it out!

@ Stuart - We don't have 3D here, so I'm sure we won't have that problem.

I cannot believe adults make such a big deal over sequels to movies like Toy Story and Shrek
The originals were very good no matter your age, but the sequels? Come on...

I'm not making a big deal out of it, I would just like to go watch it, that's all. I though the sequels were pretty good as well.

Shrek and TS are two completely different types of movies. I don't think Shrek sequels can live up to the original, because a large part of it was the humour that played into it in addition to the story. TS isn't really the same type of movie. It's purely a children's movie, and I think that both sequels were every part as good as the original.
