Pain - Beautiful or Not?

Post by Monty »

So, as the title asks: is pain beautiful or not?

Yes and no.

For EMO's yes
For all others no

---

My proper response is a middle ground response. Some pain is beautiful and can be learnt from other types are unnecessary and the motive is just to hurt. However when someone use pain to dull out another pain to me that is stupid and I consider it to be a cowardly way to deal with pain.

No.

I can't think of one situation where pain will be beautiful. Unless it is a ex bf breaking a jaw.

What type of pain?
How much pain?
In what situation? (this one might only be answered in private perhaps?...)

perhaps the question should be : Is pain necessary?

I am definitely not a friend of pain (no matter what I may say in games) I don't think it builds character, brings people closer or improves one's existence. But that is for me however. I know people who feel differently and for them pain improves their existence on this rock. As the saying goes - pain shared is pain halved. <sic> Still, personally, I avoid pain where ever and whenever I can. Now discomfort - that is another thing entirely

the thing is that I cannot think of ANY suitable time for this topic, but I do know that saturday morning is probably the second most wrong.

the first most would be sunday morning :)

GreyWolf - I take it you're not a big fan of pain (and are probably a bit afraid of it)?

I enjoy some types of pain - namely the pain associated with sports. Pushing yourself to the limit, and sometimes beyond it, improving yourself, making yourself stronger. It also gives you a clear, stress freemind for a period of time.

I don't like pain that provides too little or no gain - self cutting for example.

Monty, pain is not something people want to acknowledge - both physical (unless you are a man with flu) or emotional.. or the tragic pain that comes with grief, or the pain of rejection,,, OR the pain of growing up ...

you have opened up such a vast debate... but somehow i wonder if this forum is ready for the pain of discussing it honestly.

Or acknowledging it.

mind, you have me thinking....

Physical pain I can handle - it is the emotional stuff that I avoid. But even though I will push myself - like with weights (love that stiff sore feeling) - it is not the same as pain.

A surprising amount of modern pseudoscience is coming out of the environmental sector. Perhaps it should not be so surprising given that environmentalism is political rather than scientific.

Pain? Some pain can build character.

some people enjoy pain, in various forms. :eyebrow: So i think it depends on the context as to whether its beautiful or not.

I have friend who used to cut themselves. Thats not beautiful!

i like the rush and pain from pushing my self at gymn.

I don't see that stiffness as pain - it is just nice. I do not like pain.

I've always thought of pain (in any form) as just another way of exercising your mind.

Emotional pain = lesson, in some way, shape or form. (Learn from it)
Physical pain = possibly a lesson, possibly a good feeling. Learn or enjoy (maybe both)
Intentional pain = whatever works for you (I see that as an experiment in sensations anyway)
Agonising pain = at least you're not dead yet (or as my dear mom would say 'Be grateful you're still alive you little... Jumping off the roof like that, what the hell were you thinking')

So yeah, pain can be a pretty beautiful thing. Maybe not right away but with hindsight you could go "That was the best thing that ever happened to me".
