Re: SMS lingo/speak/language
From the day I started using SMSes and MXit I have refused to shorten my words. I type out complete sentences with correct grammar and punctuation.
In my mind if I do not take the time to write a message of the best quality I am showing the person on the other side complete disrespect.
I often send the message "huh" to a person as I do not understand the gibberish that they type.
I have learnt to type like a mad man even while driving and I never shorten words to make my replies quicker. If you want to have a decent conversation then make sure you take the time to make it a legible one.

Get call-per-second and phone the dam person and say what you want. Works out cheaper and quicker than an SMS.
Re: SMS lingo/speak/language
The irony. These people that complain about shortening SMS's but condone driving while SMSing.

you are probably thinking that I look at the cellphone while typing. I don't. I picture the keys in my head while I am driving.

Re: SMS lingo/speak/language
Still illegal and still affects your ability to drive. Especially if you aren't using an automatic.

the irony is that I was driving to work cellphone in hand doing a few KMs over the speed limit this morning and saw a police road block (as is usual for the area - 2km from Diepsloot) the cops initially point at me and when I make gesture to find out if they want me to stop they wave me off and point at the taxi behind me.

Re: SMS lingo/speak/language
Love it when that happens.
But seriously, SMSing while driving is even more distracting than speaking and driving, don't do it.

what sort of sms is this important? really?... only a self-absorbed git imagines this to be acceptable behaviour...

Re: SMS lingo/speak/language
I used to use a hands free while driving (no I do not sms while driving). I found it more distracting trying to find the bluetooth headset than just answering the phone. Now I don't answer the phone at all - they can wait until I get where I am going. If they don't leave a message - it cannot be that important.

Re: SMS lingo/speak/language
There's just one thing that annoys me more than SMS speak, and that's AFRIKAANS SMS speak... when people become too lazy to type out the word "Ek" then you have to wonder what's happening to soceity.

Re: SMS lingo/speak/language
I always get confused between the k for "ek" and the k for "okay", especially if they mix the languages.
