First Squad is an animation project created by Russian artists Misha Shprits and Aljoscha Klimov and animated in Japan by the acclaimed Studio 4C. Loosely based on a series of Soviet-era propaganda adventure novels, First Squad fuses known World War 2 history with speculation about the paranormal activities that Germany engaged in during the early months of World War 2. It is 1942. The Red Army is putting up a violent and effective resistance against the German invaders. 14 year old Nadya is a physic medium, but in a deadly German air raid Nadya is left shell shocked, and recovering from her concussion.

She discovers her new gift the ability to foresee the “Moments of Truth” the most critical moments of future combat encounters, in which one person’s actions will decides the outcome of the battle and history itself. Nadya’s new ability is indispensable for the Russians 6th Division (Military Intelligence), who themselves are waging a secret war against the “Ahnenerbe” an occult order within the German SS. The Ahnenerbe summons from the realm of the dead the powerful prince of darkness, Baron von Wolff in the hopes of changing the course of history and achieving world domination. Only Russians 6th Division and Nadya stand in their way.
