Re: Time to upgrade to something sexy
The new Accord in quite nice. Especially the Tourer.
I might have a buyer for the Jazz and the settlement is about R20000 less than I thought it was. Bonus
Frozenfireside, The stuff is staying in the Civic. As much as I want to move it to whatever I buy it would just not make sense. Ive spent in the region of R4500 on dynamat in the Civic alone. Not to mention the R5000 (+-) on cabling and R2500 (+-) on fabrication. It would be silly to spend that again on the new car.

Says something, doesn't it? Great fuel economy. Moms getting one.maxxis wrote:The new Accord in quite nice. Especially the Tourer.

yeah you would be foolish to dump all that time, effort and money.
If it was me I would spend the extra cash and get the accord. It's more useful and better looking plus there is more room for speakers...just a thought
In other news my GFs mom just got an RX8. In lipstick red. It's teh w1n!

I was looking at one of those but they are quite finicky and guzzle oil quite a bit. Also heavy on the juice.

Accord tourer-making you salivate.

Yeah Car mag rates it at 15 L to 100. it also needs a litre of oil every 1600km-that's a lot.
I would rather get an 350z really.
Did you see?

Saw that yeah. Bloody brilliant price. Only R5k more than the launch price in 2001 IIRC.

Havn't decided yet. Still waiting to see what is out there. Really don't feel like tying myself down for another 5 years when I have about 24 months left on the Jazz.

Blue Prius. Be like Prime ... c'mon, you know you want to.maxxis wrote:I think the time has come to upgrade to something new
My options are
Honda Accord Type-S
Mazda 6 2.3
Ford Mondeo ST220
Just need to weigh up the pros and cons of each.
What do you guys think?

Re: Time to upgrade to something sexy
IMO The Honda Accord is ugly, it looks like they tried to copy BMW's eagle look.
just because of that i dont like it + i dont even like BMW makes it worse.
The Civic sedan LXI is better looking, The Honda Accord would probably have more performance.

Re: Time to upgrade to something sexy
Why don't you want forced induction? At 1600m above sea level a turboed car is best...
Out of those the Accord wins hands down on quality. If you want space I'd go for an Audi A4 Avant or a Sportback. Sexiest wagons by far IMO...

Re: Time to upgrade to something sexy
Just checked the pricing and they're both very similar - Maxxis if you're looking at the Honda Tourer, you must at least, have a look at the Audi A4 Avant as well.ryanrich wrote: I'd go for an Audi A4 Avant Sexiest wagons by far IMO...
Pricing for both kick off at about R320k *gasp*

Re: Time to upgrade to something sexy
You should have a look at auctions. Some excellent deals on repoed cars... A guy from the Audi club got a 2008 Audi S6 (V10) for R185K. I almost fainted when I heard about it! Deal of the century, considering it's price new is almost R900K!

Re: Time to upgrade to something sexy
Depends on the car but you can end up with a lemon hey.
I know someone who bought a Renault from a car auction (yeah not a great start) and there were so many things wrong with it but it was cheap. Still it will cost her more to fix it then the car is worth.
Find a reputable mechanic who will fix pretty much any car and get him to look after the machine. My dad has one and he looks after their Chev Z28, Datsun* Patrol, my Camry, Corrola, Supra.
The reason for this is he doesn't just change things willy nilly-he can analyse problems and then get the dealer to send him parts afterwards. Other wise it's a bunch of idiots running around replacing random things that might be the issue.
Jokes...It's a nissan.

Re: Time to upgrade to something sexy
Drove a Mazda3 MPS this weekend and I am super disappointed.
Major turbo lag, understeer, plastic feel to the interior. At R285000 its not quite what I expected. Havn't driven the 6 but I expect the same lag. Not sure about the handling.
For now my shopping is on hold. Need to focus on work at the moment. Way too busy to be doing other things.

Have you got anything yet?
BTW, who did your dynamat for you and how much difference does it make? Did you only have your boot done or the entire car?

Re: Time to upgrade to something sexy
Havn't bought anything yet and its not looking too positive either. The Jazz is up for sale. Ill wait for the economy to stabilize before I replace it. Will have to make due with one car for a few months.
As for the dynamat and the whole install in the Civic I did 99% of the work. I did the doors, tank area and the boot. Up next is the rear panels and then the floor. Doubt Ill do the roof. Dynamat is just too expensive at the moment. Around R3000 per bulk pack. That goodness for the Targa T-Mat which retails at R1700 a pack. Still expensive so I doubt ill be doing it soon.
I think I have about 4 sheets of Dynamat Extreme left. Should be enough to do the floor in the front of the Civic.
It makes a huge difference BTW>
The car has less road noise. Is a little cooler and most importantly the sound quality of the system is hugely improved.

Re: Time to upgrade to something sexy
I'm not too worried about road noise, the car's quiet as it is (just the runflats that suck). What I am worried about is that if you stand outside the car while the 2 subs are getting a work out, it sounds like the cars about to fall apart. To me that = wasted energy which could be channeled into my chest for some good, old-fashioned death by internal organ failure, caused by low frequency pressure waves. I think even doing just the boot will do some good.
Sorry to jack your thread like this but I see you obviously know a bit about sound and I see you're on the speednsound forums (I'm too lazy to start an account) - do you know where I could get an AudioController LC6/LC6i? It converts the OEM HU high level outs to high quality lows. Or someone who might be able to point me in the right direction? Would be much appreciated!

LC6 and LC6i are a little expensive at the moment and tricky to find.
I can recommend the JL Audio Cleansweep if you want and I can supply you.
