Ford Bantam sound upgrade

Post by garp »

Hi all

Need a little bit of advice here.

I have a ford bantam, and want to upgrade the sound. a few things... It has the standard ford HD in it, I am quite happy with this and have no intention of changing it. All I am really after is some better sounding speakers. and maybe an amp.

I would really prefer to just be able to do is take the stock speakers out and put something slightly better in its place... Not so keen on an amp either. I'm not after super-loud-blow-you-away sound, just decent quality. The stock ones aren't bad, but not great.

Any Comments - suggestions on what speakers to get.

I think the standard speakers are 5 1/4". Try getting some decent speakers, something from DLS, Kenwood, Lightning Audio, RF.

Are you on a budget, if so, what are you looking to spend?

Sorry for the hijack :o

Maxxine, I require your help too :P

I managed to blow the driver's door speaker in my '06 Citi (not sure how, really) so I need to replace the front ones. Any suggestions? Also...the rear ones are like small 6x9s...wtf are they, and again, suggestions?

LOL

Sorry. I think Maxxis can help out 100s with this and not all sound systems that use amps are loud boom boom setups. The actual decent ones are amazing with high quality amps that sound awesome.

Urban. Drop by my place during the week. Depending on what you have installed in the front I might have something that can work really well.

The rear small 6x9s could actually be a 5x7. Tricky size to get hold of. I would recommend you replace them with 6x9s if they aren't. If they are you can upgrade them to better units from Boschmann.

Cool cool, just PM me an address.

The thing is, I don't think a 6x9 would fit where these are mounted. They aren't on the backboard, they're to the laft and right of the backboard, under a plastic covering. Looks like only a 5x7 would fit there. Still, it's a good idea to check.

UrBaN, those are 5x7's, and are a real odd and rare size these days, for an upgrade on those be prepared for over R500 a set.

As for you fronts i think they are 5" flats. those are around R300 from any sound shop. but check what maxxi has to offer.

remember, you get what you pay for.
R300 for speakers might seem like a bargain, but listen to them and you going to wish you bought better speakers.

personally, i have spent about R12k on my sound equipment so far.
let maxxis tell you his opinion on it.

a good pair of splits and a good amplifier are all you need to get started.
will set you back about R2k for a starter system like that.
dls, hertz, focal, lightning audio, you cant go wrong.

amp wise, something like an audison srx or older range zapco i force i250 shouldnt break the bank too much either.
seeing as you need an amp with hi level inputs...
otherwise, factor in a lineout converter too...
which will add another R500.

not sure what advice naughty gave on SS, but he is very knowledgeable, so take advice from those that know a little more than most on sound.
just looking at his equipment should tell you he knows a bit ;)
