Getting a motorbike learners license

Post by SilverBack »

Hiya all,

Ok, so I have searched the net, a few forums on the process of writing your learners, the how to, who to call etc etc. From what I have found, its no easy task so Im starting this thread to help anyone thats in my situation or will be some day ;)

I have seen a number pop up on a few forums, they say to give the number a call and get an appointment to write. The number is 0860 4288 364. Spoke to a woman, and she recommeneded Langlaagte, but Im trying Sadton first. Now to clear some things up; you dont actually setup an appointment on the phone when calling this number. You say where you wanna write, they give you a caller ID, and call you back sometime with details (still waiting, called this morn). Once they call you back with a ref number, you have to actually go to said testing station and book there. Only when you physically book it there, will you get a date to write the learners exam.

So I really dont get that? Whats the point of calling the number then, I'd rather just go to testing station and book, but Im going to wait for her to call back and see what she says and what the rest of the process involves ;)

If anyone can contribute here and help, much appreciated!

Cheers
SB

They just turn it into a hassle which it is not supposed to be. We will sit with more people on the roads without licenses because of this.

Too true!

Ok, an update. Apparently that call centre you phone to book, system has ben down for like 7 weeks so they not able to book at testing stations (thye dont tell you this, got info from someone inside - sorta). Thats for learners, to get a actual license is even more difficult. There is a place in Auckland park that does learner licenses, and have been told by a few people to go to Langlaagte. Thats about it for here in Jhb.

Hows that for kuk???? I might have someluck, but if not...gotta take a half day just to book the damn learners exam (if Langlaagte is my only option), then another half day to write. Damn this sucks :(

Sounds weird.

When i did my learners (this was about 4 years ago though), i had to call a call center, make an appointment, and then drive to the place where my appointment was to finalise and pay for it.

As for the test - don't stress dude. It's the easiest thing in the world.
That guy that used to mod cases. Now I take photos. True story.

Ja...hearing lots of stuff flying around. Latest I heard is the call centre is/has been dissolved due to corruption. Was told Midrand is also an option....will have to wait and see if the call centre phones me back with ref number :?

Thanks...think I should get the learners book so long ;)

UPDATE!!

Saw on bikebiz a guy had some luck. Followed his intructions and have an appointment tomorrow at Westhoven, for learners test!! Woo hoo! So happy, that makes it the 5th time I called that number today! Apparently the magic word is "Westhoven"! LOL!

Its the one in Auckland park. They say they pretty quick there....so thats good news!! Yeah baby!!

So...the procedure + magic word ;)
1. Phone 0860 4288 364
2. Tell them you want an appointment for bike learners license at Westhoven
3. They take you details
4. They tell you to hold on while they check for appointment to go there an book
5. Hopefully they come back and tell you to go to Westhoven next day to get date for learners test.

Will let you know how tomorrow goes ;)

Cheers
