I recently bough myself a 32" Sony Bravaria and I use the HDMI connection on my PC to connect to the Sony so I can watch my fansubs on it. So now I can vegitate in my bed while watching Anime

I'm still not sure - how do 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios appear on a widescreen LCD?

Well, 16:9 is widescreen...nuku_za wrote:I'm still not sure - how do 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios appear on a widescreen LCD?
So im guessing you mean how they appear on 16:10 widescreen monitors?
Firstly, 4:3 has black boarders on the side on a widescreen monitor.
Then 16:9 has black boarders at the top and bottom of the screen on a 16:10 monitor.
16:9 looks like it does on the picture posted by Larch on a normal 16:9 TV, in full screen that is
Ill get some pictures and then post them for you

Re: How do you watch your Anime?
I watch it on my 22" and I use it for my PC, PS3 and 360. A few pixels short of full 1080p but it's the best my budget could get me. At first I thought of getting a full 1080p 32", but I presumed 1080p will soon be surpassed so I settled for a simple 22" LCD which looks absolutely beautiful with anything that I use it with (even downscaled 1080p looks crispy clean)
What do you guys use for audio?
I've been looking into surround sound earphones but they're quite pricey so for the moment it's Griffin earpods with headphone virtualisation.

Re: How do you watch your Anime?
Nope, it doesnt stretch it.
BTW, I shouldnt have used the same anime and definatly not the same scene...
ToLove-Ru is broadcast in 4:3 as well as 16:9 HD
Soo, the 4:3 is obviously the 4:3 version and the 16:9 is the 16:9 version...
They are different files

Re: How do you watch your Anime?
I hook-up my PC or laptop up to the TV (nothing fancy) and watch it whilst sprawled out on the couch, with a wireless mouse close at hand to pause the show when the dialogue goes too fast. I tend to also keep a repository of snacks and a hot beverage close by too.
Re: How do you watch your Anime?
'22 LCD, just fine with it for now.
ZeroS you can't see the difference between 720p and 1080p on anything smaller than a '42 so no loss there. Unless your going all out big, a 720p set's perfect for HD.

Am I mistaken in thinking that 1920 x 1080 is full 1080p?

Re: How do you watch your Anime?
Not at all, you just need to know full HD's nothing but a marketing gimmick.
Look, if you have 20k itching and a big room to fill, by all means, because you'll be sitting much further from the screen. But for the average Joe sitting in his average sized room, 720p is perfect. At this veiwing distance you cannot notice the difference between a '32 720p and a '42 1080p set, thus full HD will not look any better, it will look exactly the same.
Should you have 50x PS3 and 360 games line them up. I bet you either console 40 of them will only be 720p supported. So what's the use if the bigger set's upscaling your 720p image to span it's diaplay? None whatsoever.
Future-proof? Yeah sure. Benefit right now? None. Check this out.

Re: How do you watch your Anime?
Ok, so from what I understand there isn't substantial quality difference between 1080p and the lesser degrees. The differences lie primarily in size and need for resources in which 1080p is huge and hungry.
It's now no wonder that even top notch games are rendered in 720p.
Thanks for the informative link.
