I posted in the other thread you started, but here is my reply on this topic again...

I think it's important to have a break once in a while. Every few months I take some time off and go on holiday, usually down the coast to Bettys Bay, just for a few days. By the third or fourth day I am usually starting to worry about how much email is building up and how much work I have to do when I get back, and that kind of thing, so by the time I get back I am relieved to be back with my computer and my work.

I guess I'm a workaholic :?

The longest break I have had from my own computer in the last 5 or 6 years was for two weeks earlier this year when I was in Denmark for a conference. Of course I had a laptop to use over there, but I still missed my own machine. But the forced holiday turned out really nicely in the end - once the conference was over I spent about 5 days shopping in Copenhagen and sailing in viking boats on Roskilde fjord and not touching a single computer. It was fantastic :D

However, I cannot go a single day without my cellphone. That would drive me insane.

The longest Ive gone is 2.5 weeks. Was on vacation at the sea and had no PC.

Got some rest, eyes started focussing correctly again. Bedsores disapeared

When I came back, and tried to play a game of UT2003, I couldnt work the mouse :eh: , I couldnt even write straight. After 30mins I got my groove back, but its a funny feelin

I was once away from my PC for 2 weeks... when I went on vacation last year December.

As Leigh pointed out, it's good to have a break from your PC.

The weirdest thing is that as much as I enjoy using my rig, for those 2 weeks I didn't really miss it all that much (well less than I expected)... to be away from work and all the hustle and bustle of the city was so great!

Oh wait, one thing I forgot to add is that I took my Toshiba PocketPC with, so strictly speaking I wasn't actually without a computer for those 2 weeks. (Cue the jokes about being a geek and all)

When my pc got struck by lightning i had to wait for insurance to cough up the cash and it took in the region of 6 weeks.
The first 2 weeks were the hardest by miles, i almost pegged.
But after that i just *sighed* and made myself a jam sandwich for the 31st time that day.

By the time i got a new one sorted out i couldn't even be bothered to use it the first couple of days, i was like , well i'm so behind now who cares anymore. But after a few days the mouse felt familiar in the hand again and my life over the wires began once again :D

i despise my cell, but if i don't answer it for a day i get several agitated people asking where i was, was i ok etc..

Its funny how big a 21" screen looks when you are away from your PC for a month. It just looks huge. That and try working on a 14" when you are used to a 21".

Cringes

This is not a pleasant Friday morning thought.....

No human:digital interface for several hours and I experience withdrawal symptoms.....

On the odd ocassion that i am obliged to attend a party/gathering of the clans, it helps if i take a calculator and/or picture of my pc along....

Guess what my work wallpaper is? :)

I have not used my home PC in over a month! This week I have been too busy with Varsity and the 3 weeks prior to that I was on holiday in Aus.

It was not actually too bad actually. I quess that's because I am not really into any games out at the moment, I'm bored of CS and Q3 and I don't have the time to play anything more in depth.

It would have been nice to keep up to date with my programming, but truthfully I probably would have just played games had I stayed at home :)

I must admit, I do not go into withdrawel if I don't use the comp for awhile, I have to use it every day at work, so I find if I am on holiday and over weekends, I tend not to bother! Sometimes play a game but not often.

However, please tell me the reason why you support the Aus rugby team, what family or friend reason do you have? :?

When it comes to PCs, I'm an addict all the way!!! I can go without it if I really have to, but I'd be bored out of my skull! Sit in front of my laptop the whole day (8 to 5) and when I get home I hit my desktop. I also don't really play anything in depth anymore. I'll usually a few rounds of CS. I've fallen out of the Quake thing a bit.

I'll usually just listen to some music or whatever. Wanna get a new rig sometime soon.

Aha! The plot thickens!

Angry Rabbit = Yours Sincerely,
Dayne Rathbone

Don't be embarrased about supporting the Aus team because of a relative of Rathbone's stature! He is a great player and a sad loss for us, would of loved to have had him on our side! All the very best to him and here's to his prosperous future in Australia!

I used to hate it even when I was away from my PC for a few hours, now it doesn't bother me so much.

I've sat at my pc for so many days and hours that I can get bored with my PC very easily.

I'm sure I could go a few months without using my PC. I might have to use someone elses to check mail though and pop in to some forums.

If I win the lotto on Wednesday, I will buy a farm in Italy, Ireland or somewhere nice and green where are very few people, or just a few friendly ones. I can see it now--children playing in the snow; little book shop on the corner; coffee shop right next to it; and best of all I know everybody’s name and they know mine. The simple life. No PC...? I think I will still have a pc, but I won't be so concerned if I don't go on it at all. I’ll just keep it on for incoming emails and such.
For someone who wants that type of life, I am the complete opposite. When I'm on the net I feel as if I am doing something, getting stuff accomplished. When I'm offline or off of my PC, I feel like I should be online again.
I was online the whole of yesterday, just downloading pictures and fonts and posting on PCF.
I hate my PC but I can't keep away.
The most I've been without my new pc is 3 days.

I often have this wish to go tend sheep in the mountains, a serene place, with my music instruments and my kettle, my books ... and my pc....
"Integrity" and "integer" both contain a Latin root meaning "whole; complete." The root sense, then, is that people may be said to be acting with integrity when their beliefs, words, and actions have a sense of unity or wholeness.
