Anyone been to New Zealand?
How was it?
Any advice?
Thanks very much.

I've been here since April 16th living and working. What you wanna know?
It's a great place, really beautiful, weather is a bit crappy. There was a massive storm here this weekend like they haven't seen for 10 years. I honestly thought my apartment building was gonna come down it was that bad!
I'm heading back to SA in about 2 weeks though...

Is it true that they have a lot of dormant volcanoes and it can explode and take out a large part of the island?
I'm thinking of going there for a while just hope it isn't too boring? I'm not sure if I like New Zealanders either.
Aren't their accents really irritating?
I also hear they're pretty preachy and don't like games like GTA4 etc?

There are dormant and extinct volcanoes all around Auckland, but seriously no worry of them erupting or anything, haha.
Accent is actually very similar to an SA persons accent. The people are mostly very friendly and great to be around!
GTA4 is huge here, really dunno what you're referring to with them being "preachy...

Oh okay then maybe I was wrong but it sounds pretty cool Ryan, Did you spend a lot of money when you were there? I know the exchange rate wasn't so good when last I checked?
And how is the food? Is too expensive to live off takeaways? Are the chicks hot? I hear they are?

I'm sure this thread belongs in general because I'm sure I would get a lot more replies.Moved to Chillout.

Hmmm I dunno about being 100% safe, since I've been here 2 of my friends have been mugged and assaulted, one while walking on the beach with friends the other in the Wellington CBD. I also know 1 of the guys that was attacked on the North Shore with baseball bats a few weeks back by members of the Killer Beez gang.
Statistically safer than SA though yes, but the crime rate is getting higher and higher here.

I was in New Zealand for about 9 months in 1999
Nice little country. Friendly people. Crime is was negligible then.
True about the volcano's tho. When I was in a province called Taranaki, the dominant feature was a dormant volcano. Visible from anywhere in the province, and prone to sprouting columns of steam on cold winter days.
This was the view from anywhere in Taranaki.
I found NZ a bit boring. Even Aukland. The Kiwi's lackadaisical approach to everything really got to me sometimes.
They are like Capetonians, only more laidback
South Island NZ was completely rural.
Nice for a get-away holiday, but I wouldn't want to live there.
And you haven't felt cold until you have driven around south island NZ in winter, on the back of an open canopy bakkie! 8O
