Topic Preview, good idea or bad idea?

Post by Anakha56 »

So I was browsing a phpbb3 mods database when I stumbled across this mod about having a topic preview.

http://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/mod/topic_preview/
Description
Displays an excerpt from the first post of a topic when the user hovers their mouse over the topic title, using the browser's built-in tooltip ability. The amount of text shown can be defined in the ACP, and the MOD can also be turned off. It's much more simplified than other similar MODs (no javascript or css needed), this version is designed to mimic the vbulletin method.
Should it be something to implement? I like the idea of hovering over the link to get an idea of what I am going into although this being PCF-SA it is probably spam anyway...

Nah... I have a back button on my mouse so I'm in and out in a flash.

That's what she said.

I reckon this one may actually have some merit.

As usual, this is a default feature of the vBulletin system :P

It is rather useful, and if implementing it won't blow up the moon, why not?

I'm guessing that this will incur performance hits in the form of querying the db at least twice for the same data? :?
Either way, it's not jumping out at me... Might be nice to have, but I wouldn't know unless using it first to see.

So does that mean that, for once, its going to happen?

Since I live in the Afrikaans thread I don't really see the use.

A surprising amount of modern pseudoscience is coming out of the environmental sector. Perhaps it should not be so surprising given that environmentalism is political rather than scientific.
