I'm not saying they're dumb. Nor do I say the sun shines or grass is green.

People are free to make their own decisions about such things.

They are mostly dumb, but so is most of humanity. I do concede though that we sound pretty stupid with a thick Afrikaans accent when speaking English, hey Caffee?

True. :)
"Integrity" and "integer" both contain a Latin root meaning "whole; complete." The root sense, then, is that people may be said to be acting with integrity when their beliefs, words, and actions have a sense of unity or wholeness.

Somehow you sound less stupid than we do and more pretentious as you say.

You have a tinge of an aristocratic sound there do ya?

I sometimes feel pretentious when I use good (or what I think is good) English, but sometimes you just want to get a more precise thought across.

Yes - my mother was a speech and drama teacher - 'nuff said. I may sound pretentious - but I wouldn't change it for anything :D I have no problem with the Afr accent - but the pronunciation of words does bother me a bit

on a more serious note, i refuse to read intentionally bad language in much the same way as i refuse to read 100 word posts sans paragraphs... :/
Coming from someone who refuses to acknowledge the existence of his shift or caps lock keys, that's rich...

Edit: fixed typo, I see urban is getting a wee bit too excited. :?

On a side note, I am no longer used to reading Afrikaans. Reading long passages (like some posts in this thread) becomes tedious and slow quickly. How weird. I speak mostly Afrikaans in my daily life and usually fumble around with a word at some point whenever I get involved in a lengthy discussion with an English speaking person. On forums the opposite is true. English comes naturally and Afrikaans becomes a chore. I am slowly being turned into a salted rooinek!
And that is exactly why I joined the Afrikaans thread :)

have you never written or spoken in english en dan oorgeskakel na afrikaans toe en verder gepraat en dan kom jy op 'n punt wat jy dit ni meer in afrikaans verduidelik ni and then you go back to english....

i am fluent in 3 languages: english; afrikaans and eng-afrik
