New forum style!

Post by Ron2K »

As I mentioned ages ago (back here, in fact), I decided to do a rework of the forum style. This has now been completed, and I took advantage of this morning's maintenance window to push it live. Hope you all like it. ;)

Special thanks to the select group of users (as well as the rest of the forum staff) who provided me with feedback during the development phase.

For those old-school members, the previous style is still available, but may not be so indefinitely.

if I may comment:
I have likes and dislikes, but even the things I do not like I can see the logic behind, except for the narrow layout. Was this by choice or is it something that's part of the back end and cannot be changed?

Complaint: We read from left to right. Before I start reading, I look at avatars to know who's voice I should be hearing in my head. Now, I have to first look right before I start to read, and it annoys me. :(

Stop being so biased! It's done this way so that we first read. If you first know who's comment you're going to read, it'll give you an opinion before even reading it.

You get used to glancing at the right - takes a day or two at most

I guess you have a point.

I know I'll get used to it, but It's going to make reading take a few milliseconds longer, and I can't stand inefficiency. I'd rather not look at all. </OCD>

There was some effort to make the forum look somewhat like the main site. The main site is fixed rather than fluid. iRon has some other geeky reasons too.

Looks nice but is this opposite day?

The colour scheme is very friendly on the eyes. The user detail to the right from the left will take time to get use to.
