3DS XL

Post by StarBound »

The first revision of Nintendo's handheld is here. Is it your time to buy a 3DS?

The basics that everyone can tell you is that the system features 90% larger screens. Sounds lovely doesn't it? It boils down to an extra inch and a bit per screen though so around 2.5cm+ larger in size. Small sounding but it does make a difference. Pixelation is more noticeable now because of the larger screen.

Something that is neglected and written off as "the system is not that much bigger" is that it is now the size of the circle pad pro accessory. The system fits better into larger hands. Missing from the redesign is the 2nd circle pad which means you will have to wait for the circle pad xl if your planning on using a 2nd analog.

A sleeker design with rounded edges, mat finish instead of the gloss, longer battery life (1-2 hours), bigger screens and bigger system the 3DS XL is no longer that pocket device its former incarnation was for better or worse. Although it misses the 2nd circle pad it is the system I would have wanted from the get go.

Heads up for buyers:
3DS XL does not come with a charger or cradle. You will need to buy them seperately. 3DS XL is compatible with 3DS, DS, DSi charger. (america/australia will have chargers with system)

Putting things in perspective:
The 3DS XL screen is about the same size as the 3DS system.
The 3DS XL screen is about the same size as the PSVita screen (resolution of XL is that of 3DS, see link below).
PSVita is slightly longer than the 3DS XL.
