Goldeneye Wii

Post by StarBound »

Let's get it off the bat. It is the worst of the current generation systems purely on its hardware scale. It's under rammed, under graphicsed, under storaged, under everything yet for a party console it doesnt have an equel. Now on to the 2nd part. Goldeneye 007 has a fond memory on the N64. It wasnt the first console FPS. But it was the first console FPS to give the likes of Quake before they added 3D acceleration to everything a run for its money. And the close quaters multiplayer split screen meant that if you cheated or tried to cheat you would be handing that controller cable as a tie for the rest of your short life.

15 Years later Activision felt it was time to decicrate our fond memories by releasing this:
Goldeneye 007 Wii
The link is an IGN link which means the score might be as real as any SA polititions promise but unlike SA it might ring some truth. So untill then we (pun intended :P ) have until friday to listen and decide if its worth getting it and reliving the good old days.

that title is wrong on so many levels. :eyebrow:

On topic, the graphics look ok, though I'm puzzled by the choice of weapon in the one picture. it looks like the golden gun :?

The golden gun is a multiplayer weapon. If I remember it correctly it was the 1 shot kill weapon in multiplayer but to get it you needed to set the game mode to golden gun. All players got it and it was 1 shot kill. You also had the moon laser from moonraker and melee only was also judo chopping 1 shot kills.

There is no way to compare the title graphicly to call of duty or such on the ps3/xbox or pc. Compared to other games similar games on the wii it does look very good.

The game trailers link which I hold in higher regard than IGN or gamespot. But they still are owned by game companies. 8.6/10 by their scoring system. The lowest so far is 6.5/10 and the most noticeable comment was "impossible to recreate goldeneye".

Ok played it Friday and today but didnt have time yesterday.

Graphicely the game looks ...bad compared to todays titles but good for a wii title. It plays similiar to CoD yet it also feels like it plays like the original goldeneye did. The original however you couldnt aim and move at the same time and it didnt lock on like this one can. The setting of the game resembles the original even if the stages looks different. Eg the Opening levels start looks like the openings from the original and the 2nd levels aswell.

Spending all my time on ps3 I felt more at home using the gamepad than the wii-mote.

The game is not without its flaws. Enemies in the same room can be taken out by a silenced weapon or subdued which is a stealth kill. The problem with this is that when you kill the guy he screams and no one notices. No one turned around to look why I shattered glass to jump in and land behind them from the rooftops. So funny, annoying, but also not too bothered. When reinforcements do get called in it is a short fire fight that follows. The best part is that it isnt the un ending rows of enemies CoD throws at you. You get all guards remaining in the room plus 10 or so that seems to come from the next area.

The only gadget you have with you is a smartphone that lets you take pictures and hack computers.

As far as FPS games goes it isnt groundbreaking. It is on par with most shooters today with a bit of memory attached to it being based on the N64 title. Definitely worth getting if you own a wii or played the N64 game.
