Hi everyone i am upgrading my PC and i cant decide which of the following processors
to get Intel® Core™ i5 2500K OR AMD® Phenom™II X6-1090T.
The price does not matter.

Thanks.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

The i5 2500K is probably the best bang for buck Intel processor at the moment; you'll experience dimishing returns with the higher models. The Phenom is significantly older tech, and I believe that it's about to be replaced by the Bulldozer chips anyway.

My advice: if you can afford to wait, wait for Bulldozer and see how those chips compare. If you can't afford to wait, get the i5.

from the AMD vs Intel thread... bulldozer is tanking...badly...
Spoiler (show)
if price isn't an issue, why not an i7?

Ah right - wasn't aware of that. In that case, i5 (or i7 if you prefer listening to rusty).

I meant i can get the two for the same price so the price difference does not matter.

In a month's time as far as I know, but it beats the i5 2500k only in heavily threaded applications. In gaming the i5 destroys Bulldozer and in other processing benchmarks they are either close, or the i5 wipes the floor with it. Sandy Bridge will be the CPU of choice for the foreseeable future I'm afraid and i5 2500k is currently the second fastest consumer CPU on the market.

What do you intend to use your pc for? The i7 has 8 threads and the i5 has 4 threads. So for gaming, the i5 is your best bet and if you're doing cpu intensive work then I'd rather go for the i7.
And I'd get the i5 over the Phenom anytime

500W should be fine, assuming it's a reputable brand.

Ya they come with the standard cooler, do you intend to OC? If so then the standard cooler isn't so great for that, but if not then you could save money by getting the normal 2500, not the K version...

Uh I can't think of the bad brands, the bad brands normally don't have a name they're your generic PSU's that come in your generic ATX cases. There's so many brands that you could consider, Corsair, Coolermaster, Thermaltake, Gigabyte, Antec.
I've heard bad stories about the Gigabyte Odin 585W but iv also heard good stories. I had a Thermaltake 500W Litepower and it blew while my pc was in power saving mode. It was a week old so it got replaced and then I ran it for about 3 Months with no hitches, so I don't know what to think.

I always suggest this cooler to guys who want the cheapest cooler that does the best job and I really did my homework when I came to buying my cooler. I suggest the Coolermaster Hyper 212+. Its a great cooler IMO and reviews were great and they're pretty popular, but there's a whole lot better, but for double the price. When I priced the cooler a few months back they were going for around R300. The Coolermaster Hyper TX3 isn't too bad either.

This one word virtually invalidates everything you've said in your post.

@OP: Corsair, Coolermaster, Antec are probably the mainstream ones that you're safe with. You get others--OCZ, Silverstone, Zalman, etc.--all of which are good, but if you're running down to your local store to buy ask for one of the first three. Not sure where you're buying from.

Gigabyte Odin PSU's aren't bad, but as Slim says you do hear enough bad stories about them to probably prefer Corsair, Coolermaster or Antec.
