Intel drops the ball but promises to pay up

Yesterday Intel announced the discovery of a bug in its Cougar Point chipsets (P67/H67) which affect the SATA connection. Over time this connection degrades and ceases to function altogether. Production of the faulty chipset has been halted as has the production of motherboards based on this chipset. Intel expects that the costs related to repairing and replacing the faulty chipsets to be in the region of $700 million (R4.9 billion)

But it is only limited to the sata2 ports. The sata6 ports are unaffected. But your bound to loose your optical drive usage then. Those with sata6 hdds have no worries.

since when is the exchange rate 2:1 :lol:

I love how they are handling this. If it fails outside of warranty due to sloppy engineering, they don't care.

Did they make the chipset out of cheese or something? How wrong did this go...

This is Drakonis, his errors are nearly as legendary as KB's fails...ok not quite but you get the point ;)

the editing thing doesn't always appear. I think there is a character or time dependence or maybe its just a bug. Also if mods edit someone else's post, it doesn't appear.

I'm aware of both situations, but to my knowledge neither happened, as I read this right after he posted it. I may be wrong though. Either way.

the mods (always) let you know if they have edited a post....
also, if you edit your post before someone posts after you and before someone quotes you then the line at the bottom doesn't show...
time limit i think is an hour...

Yes back to the subject! I get to keep my sandy bridge mobo until prophecy have received the new mobos from intel,so its all being sorted out. +1 to prophecy!
