Luis Section

Post by juDge »

Does anyone else find the new style of the Luis question section absolutely tedious?
Why on earth has it been changed to story telling....I much preferred the way it was before with just plain insults and sarcasm...I think maybe someone wished they were a novelist instead of a writer for a tech mag :/

Just my opinion...

this needed it's own thread, why?

i've always clumped the luis fans together with idols fans... tjops with zero intellect who imagine that forced sarcasm=both funny AND intellectual...

they could dump the section in its entirety and immediately improve the average content quality of the mag by 30%.

just my opinion....

Luis is back to the regular style from the August issue.
What I type has nothing to do with the people that employ me.

If you cut the nonsense from the section and focus on the parts where he talks tech, it sometimes is very informative.

1) there are other mechanisms available to convey information... sarcasm barely creeps in at number 50...
2) the entire section is cherry picked based on the entertainment value of the "rapier whit" responses as opposed to anything remotely informative...

it's the simon cowel(?) of tech support...

Does not change the fact that it's got some value, even if that value is undermined by annoying "wit".

Do you always only fill in the Con part of a Pro/Con evaluation?

Sarcasm can be hilarious sometimes. Just have a look at http://www.27bslash6.com. ;)

Similar to the Jerry Springer show. When you get an invite to attend the show - you know it cannot be good. (Yet people attend anyway) Neither is addressing your computer questions to Luis. It is not answers they are looking for - they want to see if their question elicits the best sarcastic response.

For busy people that prefer to use their time to the best (like reading the newest Terry Pratchett) working your way through all that rubbish to get to one or two nuggets of wisdom is just such a waste. Its like eating through a wad of 10 day old over boiled cabbage to get to the hazel nut in the middle... and ultimately the surroundings affect the nut...
"Integrity" and "integer" both contain a Latin root meaning "whole; complete." The root sense, then, is that people may be said to be acting with integrity when their beliefs, words, and actions have a sense of unity or wholeness.

It is not as bad as you make it out to be. Serious questions or issues are given a pinch of "wit" followed by the solution(s), consistently every time. 8)
Anyway, if you want real tech support Luis is hardly the first port of call... you have to see that section for what it is.

yes, and i see it as a waste of time ;) Actually, read a bit of this month's column at the airport - i normally disregard it - and must admit i liked the story line more. Read if for what it was. A time filler ;)

+1, I really do not like this new 3rd person stuff. I loved the way he used to insult people

That section sucks, those poor guys cannot solve their problems, even though there is tons of info on the net. Do you think they will be able to siff through that junk Luis writes to find the solution to their problems. Luis sucks! I though i was the only one who hates that section.

I agree that Luis' answers are usually helpless and full of pointless sarcasm. Replace him with a South African. Steve Hofmeyr or JP Pietersen.

Yeah I agree. But I do find it mildly entertaining.

There are SO much info on the net it's staggering and I've found solutions to obscure problems relating to more obscure software. Like proprietary industrial automation stuff.

Like this one guy always told me when I started working and asking for help: "Google it" and that has since been my first port of call.

The Luis section I fear is only there to lay into technologically impaired people. And yes, there are no stupid questions. Period. So why have someone take the pee out of you when asking a question about something they probably don't know?

Either of them would provide more entertainment in an answer than Luis. Is it really necessary for Luis to insult people because they are technologically challenged or not tech-savvy.

A better idea might be to take some of the forum questions & answers and publish that instead. Luis is an Image

As far as I'm concerned: I see no problem with Luis giving those asking stupid questions the answer that they deserve instead of the answer that they want.

A stupid question to you may not be stupid to them if they don't know the answer...hence them seeking advice....no point ridiculing someone for lacking the knowledge on a subject...

You're confusing ignorance and stupidity. It's OK to be ignorant, it's not OK to be stupid.
