Project: AeroIce

Post by GrimAndy »

Well hello there! welcome to the first installment of my AeroIce Mod...

This is my first big mod but it will not be my last... and it will not be a small one

The case im going to be working with is a AeroCool Zero Degree, hence me naming the project AeroIce.

Here's a link to the case if anyone doesnt know what it looks like.
http://www.aerocool.us/case/zerodegree/zerodegree.htm

The case is called a flexi tower due to its unusual layout with the mobo being mounted on the left hand side of the case instead of the right as with standard cases. The PSU is also mounted at the bottom of the case instead of the top which i feel is nice cause it helps with cable management. Well the way i wanna do it atlease.

plans for the mod keep evolving everyday i think about it but the main inspiration is from this case...
http://www.million-dollar-pc.com/system ... miyagi.htm

When i first saw it i fell inlove with the theme except where the case is brushed alu mine shall not be... Colours of my case will be mainly black with chrome and white lighting much like that case.

I havent got any pics yet of what i've done on mine so far but i only plan to be finished with the mod around march next year due to hardware upgrades coming. so far i've sleeved my psu and installed a couple extra case fans...

ill post a couple designs of how im going to do the bezel door as soon as i've picked the best ones.

ill be borrowing a couple idea's from some of dae's mods (if he doesnt mind). those being that i will be using shower hosing for some of the sleeving and using clear aquatic tubing to sleeve my already sleeved cables... shower hosing will only be for 24pin and 4pin ATX.

Cooling for the mod will all be aircooled and im going to be using some serious heatsinks for the CPU, GPU and RAM. Thermalright are the kings regarding that :D

any suggestions for the case are more than welcome and please feel free to moan at me if you dont like something...

Keep it real and void all warrenties!

Sounds good man :) The project that you're using for inspiration is a very good one!

Just keep in mind that shower hose is conductive, so you'll need to protect all your hardware from it. If it touches anything, you'll have a lovely cloud of smoke appearing :P

Good luck dude :)
That guy that used to mod cases. Now I take photos. True story.

Nope to use as sleeving instead of showering hose.

Would coating the showerhose in clear lacquer of sorts, provide insulation? Maybe thats a solution for you?

You could always coat it with a clear rubberizing.

Sorry forgot to add... there's going to be either mesh or clear plexi behind that allowing white light to shine through those holes from the 2 fans mounted in the 5.25inch bays... ill post pics of the case as it is now so you can get an idea of what i mean...

Keep it real :D

I tried to post this earlier but it vanished

the inside of shower house is sharp, be careful you don't cut into the cables with it.

well the cables ill be pushing through the shower hosing will be sleeved... if they dont fit like that ill figure out another plan... they should be protected when i put them through.

Another thing im trying to figure out is how im going to attach the shower hosing to the 24pin ATX. I wont be putting a mobo cover on like Dae did and i also would prefer the actual cables to show as little as possible. was thinking of maybe building a little black plexi box which the hosing will screw onto and will cover the whole 24pin... suggestions?

Awesome!!! So you'll have the cuts done before this weekend! Cool man. Can't wait to see what the painted cut panels will look like, especially the crop circles one.

Right so as promised here are pics of the case as it is now... its nothing impressive... yet:)

sorry about the quality, had to use my housemates camera as mines batteries are dead and i cant find the charger... cleaned them up as best i could...

Front view

Open Door

Flash off open door

Flash off closed door

Side window and giant 250mm fan

Another front view with more of opposite side showing

Insides

And there you have it...
As you can see the main panel is seperate... this allows you to place it in any of the 10 5.25inch bays... im either going to take it out and mod it all into the top of the case with an additional 4 USB ports or ill leave it be.. still to be decided...

The side window is UV re-active plexi which glows blue... not sure if ill keep that... thinking of swopping it for a transparent black (smokey) plexi... also still deciding. and ill see if ill keep that fan :D

cant think of anything else right now... if i do ill just add it in another post tomorrow...

Oh right! yes the insides.....
at the moment its nothing special... just got an intel 2ghz core2due CPU, Some Biostar Mobo, XFX 9800GT and a black power 500watt PSU. all the drives are still IDE :( all of the hardwares will get swopped out end of this year or so cause bigger and better things will be available then and awesome things now will be on the cheap then...

Hope you guys enjoy:) let me know what you love or hate...
