Someone recommend some good anime to me - like a best of 2009/2010...

I want to start watching again, but it's been about 3 years and I have no idea what's hot and what's not.

Well I've seen 2 shows last year (more like recently actually) so I cannot help with that I'm afraid. Hyakka Ryouran and FMA Brotherhood. First is rubbish and I read most the recent ecchi shows are censored badly now. The second however may well be the best show I've seen in a very, very long time.

So, give that a try, it will get you into the anime mood guaranteed. And to the chaps on the prior pages asking about FMA vs FMAB, now that the retelling is done there is no reason whatsoever to watch the first at all. In fact feel free to throw it away should you have the choice. That's how much better Brotherhood is.

Watching it after you have seen FMA will probably feel a bit too familiar at first (first 10 or so eps) but fear not, your patience shall soon be rewarded and everything you thought you knew of FMA shall soon be forgotten.

I'll move on the Rainbow next. I heard that's also a very good drama.

Thanks Rayne :D

I'm trying to think when I watched the original FMA... it must have been about 2005, so the retelling will probably be a nice recap for me...

just finished angel beats and i must say its rather epic.

The art style is good, I like the character design. Its story interesting and its EXTREMELY funny.

A bit short though but hey either short and sweet or full of fillers :/ ... if anyone is looking for an anime to watch I recommend this

I need recommendations for any good anime that isn't too cliche' but still like able.
I'm getting bored to watch the same story over and over again. And preferably something new.

I watched this last night. Little weird watching something from Key not featuring dying little girls. Far from the emotional Air and Clannad but yeah, I agree with the above. Clannad never really got its humor right but this actually had me laughing a few times. Its neither a tear-jerker nor a comedy though, yet executed well nonetheless. The OP's also pretty good, I would think. Tube -

Is it by any chance by the same people who did Haruhi Suzumiya? Because it's all so similar

No, this just came about recently, not based on anything. Its closer to Clannad than Haruhi though. Get to that if you didn't yet, though it requires patience, and it may not be your thing...
Aniplex wanted Maeda to write a screenplay that would be very "Key-like, with touching moments of laughter and tears," but initially Maeda found himself at a loss to write a story more amusing than Little Busters!, because he thought that he had reached a limit with Little Busters! in regards to a "Key-like story". However, one day Maeda was struck by inspiration, where he thought up the initial idea of a story set in the afterlife. Furthermore, with everyone already dead, Maeda conceived of flashy battles where the combatants go all out without fear of death. According to Maeda, the theme of the series is "life", which in Angel Beats! is depicted as a precious and wonderful thing, despite the characters in Angel Beats! who fight against their fate.

Key adopts eroge, generally tear jerkers, which is why I was a bit surprised with Angel Beats.

You can use http://anidb.net to group shows hey, its still the most comprehensive site around.

just finished D.grayman and i must say its ok. There is alot of crying and noobness but towards the end once it picks up (if you look beyond these soft soldiers) its pretty epic. However the 103 episodes doesnt wrap up the anime. So i want to know is there anymore of d.grayman?

I agree... In fact the whole series was excellent. Totally enjoyed the first episode. The dissappointment came from secretly hoping for a happy ending only to be slapped in the face with that ending
