OpenSolaris

Post by ryanrich »

Anybody tried this yet? I've ordered the DVD and am quite keen to give it a go... Looks very nice from the reviews I've read so far. Similar to Linux, but without as much support and development at this stage, although it's growing quite rapidly.

used it once or twice... it is linux - just the butchered sun version... impressively stable, for the most part, but still not as feature-rich as other distros...

haven't used it for just under a year, so i might take a peek again sometime soon..

It's based on Unix System V.

I read about it's stability, but lack of consumer features, which makes me think it might serve better as a server install over a desktop OS, but we shall see.

I'd definitely give the newer version a go, as I believe a lot has been added to the 2009.06 release. The media ships from the US and takes a few weeks, so give me a shout if you want a copy.
