Re: 2011 Rugby World Cup

Post by IcePick88 »

The boks just had to pitch to win anyway.

In a sense I feel for the minnow teams. I cannot be easy for a team like Namibia to come up against a professional outfit like the Boks. In reality there was no chance the Boks could loose even if they played old snorre.

I think we should not read too much into the sloppy start. If anyone has played rugby and played a match against a small walkover team (no disrespect to Namibia), then you will know you want to go out there and score tries. This leads to impatience and the quick throw around of the ball. And that is where the sloppy handlilng came from I think.

The boys were too over eager and that should not manifest itself against a big opponent.
What I am concerned about is the missed tackles.

Missing 14 tackles out of 68 is not too bad against a team like Namibia or the even Fiji the other day, but a missed tackel to me is worse than a knock on.

With the knock you stop and compete for the ball where it was knocked and have a chance to tackel them before they cross the advantage line, but with a missed tackle, the player is far over the advantage line and the bigger teams will have good support for that player.

So rather make your first time tackels.

Another walkover today-at a price.

I hope that Faiinga's injury is not serious.

Sport is serious business

So I don't have time for patriotism....
It's just entertainment-and I seem to be losing interest rapidly as I did not watch any matches this past week.
'Twas but a passing phase....

Anyone care to take a guess at what teams will be in the quarters, semis and finals?

Although I respect your decision, I have to say that not shouting or rooting for a specific team must put a damper on the excitement when watching a game between say the Boks and NZ.

What is the use of watching anyway then? :D
StarPhoenix wrote:Anyone care to take a guess at what teams will be in the quarters, semis and finals?
Quaters are fairly easy. I would say the follwing:

Pool A
NZ and France

Pool B
England and Argentina (I don't see the Scots overcoming England for a shout at the play-offs and Argentina has a "easy" one against Georgia)

Pool C
Ireland and Australia (I don't see Italy beating Ireland and Australia has a easy one against Russia)

Pool D
South Africa and Wales (If we should loose to Samoa and Wales beats Fiji with 4 points, Wales will go through on PD. If Wales wins with 5 points, they are through because I don't think that even IF Samoa beats us, it will be with a bonus point.)

Qualifiers:
Ireland vs Wales (Ireland is already 3 points up on AUS and if they manage to beat Italy, they secure top spot.)
England vs France (I think the pools will stay like it is.)
SA vs AUS (See my comment on the first qualifier. Ireland looks to have top spot, so that leaves us with the aussies.
NZ vs Argentina

Semi's:
Wales vs Eng
SA vs NZ

Final will could be a repeat of 2007....
SA vs ENG.

But that is just my 2c.

Considering how slick the All Blacks have been, do you really think that the Springboks are in with a shout?

I would have gone:

NZ vs Argentina -> NZ wins
SA vs Oz -> Oz outsmarts SA
England vs France -> England
Ireland vs Wales -> Wales

NZ vs Oz -> NZ
England vs Wales -> Wales

NZ to beat Wales in the final

....but I'm just guessing :-P

Agree. The AB's are slick and a very very hard team to beat on home ground, but I will always vote Boks. :D

I reckon it will be a SA-NZ semi and whichever team wins that game will take the Cup.

He's the captain of the team- or at least he was for the last while (usually plays as hooker). Victor captained the game for today, though I'm not sure if this change is now permanent. I follow RWC, but not really the rest :oops:

A single point was required to advance for certain, so ultimately the scoreline didn't matter. The real test comes in this week once the injury list starts building. :lol:

Would it really be such a bad thing to lose Habana for the rest of the tournament? I'm more concerned about Hougaard.

Were we that bad or was Samoa that good?
