Dude, I don't want to pee on your parade but if you're going once a week you may as well not go at all. You need at least 20-40 minutes of vigorous exercise at least 3 times a week to notice any progress.
+1

Ideally you should be training at least 5 times a week (preferably every day).

RuadRauFlessa wrote:+1 I can vouch for that.

I used to dance 6 hours a day for 5 days a week and I could eat anything I wanted and I still lost weight. but if you are going to do it once a week you will put more carbs and stuff in that you actually use. If you can't go to the gym more than once a week try to at least take some decent walks. Hit the streets and just walk to get rid of most of it.
i wasn't the sporty type at school but i did dancing, not as much as you but was doing 5/6 hours a week....
now my daily exercise is walking to and from campus everyday, nice walk, nice workout.... and i love it!!

also a healthy eating plan goes a long way with the exercise... :D
just by changing a few things, not going on a diet per se but just eating healthier..... have lost about 20kgs.....

I can almost guarantee that a person who cuts out sugary drinks and sweets / chocolates can shed at least 5kgs over a few months with no additional effort required.

My varsity days are where my weight issues started, pies, chips, chilli-cheese dogs, booze etc. Stayed slim and trim because I was active. Started working and suddenly I was weighing 90kgs. Joined the gym, hit the cardio and super-circuit hard and dropped down to 78kgs after 6 months (also after following a strict eating plan).

Started hectic weight training and eating a more lenient but still healthy eating plan with numerous supplements and my body-fat is still 10% but I've packed on muscle and now sit at a stable(ish) 84-86kgs with a very healthy heart, blood sugar and cholesterol level.

I started training because I had to, now I depend on it for stress relief and sheer enjoyment. Recently got married, so had to reduce the 90 minute evening sessions to an hour, but still go diligently 4 times a week.

Yes, as Tribble said, I walk to and from work from Monday to Friday, on Saturdays walk to and from a shopping centre carrying 7 or 8 litres of milk and on Sundays I make the 4 km trip to my Mom's house.

I would like to visit the gym more than once a week, but I am not comfortable with the idea of going there after work and then walking home. I would ask my brother to fetch me, but work keeps him quite busy and out of town sometimes.

Depends on how you do it. You can walk for 10 km if you keep a steady pace but that is not the idea. The idea is to break the walk into 5 min sections. Walk 5 minutes fast and then slow the pace for another 5 minutes. If you do this for like 30 minutes you get a half decent exercise.

I moved in with some house mates three months ago and I have lost a bit of weight.
When living with my Gran I was almost force fed three times a day whether I was hungry or not. Now because I have to take care of my own breakfast and lunch I don't bother (yes I know its bad but right now I am buring through my fat and loving it). I think that my metabolism was never slow, I just ate too much for my body to use so it stored it. I eat smaller portions at meal times and try to keep my portion of carbs (namely pasta and rice) down to a minimum.

I have also switched from drinking coke to Oros (I can't stand the taste of plain water) and this should help me a bit. We don't eat a lot of red meat, probably only have a portion of red meat once every two weeks max. No snacks or sweets in our house which removes the temptation.
What I type has nothing to do with the people that employ me.
