Best iPod earphones

Post by Jonboy »

Hi all,

I've put this in the locker room because it relates to the earphones I use in my iPod for gym.

I initially used the horrible standard Apple ones, but they seem to last about 3 months before the one earpiece quits working. I then bought a pair of Griffin in-ear headphones which were much better and lasted about a year / 18months. The left earpiece has too now given up the ghost.

What can you guys recommend for a set of in-ear headphones? I don't want to spend more than about R200 (I cam across Bose ones for R1000!). I see that Skull Candy has some for R250 (smokin' buds), anybody tried these out? They need to be decent for sound canceling because regular earphones become drowned out in the din at gym and then you have to put them super loud which isn't the best thing ever for your ears!

Look for a pair of sennies on amazon or via wia?

in ear sony's? Can't remember the model but they are similar in style to the ones that come with the phones-check sony's site? There is also phillips?

skull candy are said to be good, as are, i think, the frogz.

i assume you want rubber or silicone in ear phones? Electronic Noise cancelling is usually expensive.

The iPod earphones are surprisingly rubbish in terms of longevity.

and +1 to Prime, Sennies or bust.

Those seem like quite good ones, although I've never actually tried. The price is R260 for it but if you sign up there you get R50 discount so its basically R200. Just becareful though buying from WantItAll, there are often cheaper places.

Oh, and if you thought those R1000 ones were expensive, check these:

Thanks dudes, the Griffin ones were quite good, but as time was getting on, the silicone in-ear bits were getting looser and looser and then when you grab one out your ear to chat to somebody, the silicone earpiece gets left behind, had visions of explaining that one to the GP.

If they didn't look so dorky (or like a gangster) it would be so much cooler to get some cans rather, they cancel out background so well!

If you ever decide to splurge on quality earphones I can definitely recommend a pair of Ultimate Ears. Mine were about R1800, but the quality is amazing. They're used by many musicians and recording artists.
