Depends who, but in general yeah I'd agree.

I had fantastic service from my VW dealer down here. I test drove a new GTI on a Thursday, told them I want one and gave them the colour and options I wanted. They said they'd source me one in the colour and spec I wanted and have it within a week or so. The next few days they kept me up to date every day with their progress and Tuesday the car arrived at them, pre delivery inspection was done, finance organised, sent for smash and grab tint and ready for me to collect on Thursday, all with a R25k discount off list price.

That is good service. There are one or two decent dealers around, and some manufacturers are worse than others(Fiat/Alfa has had a bad name not sure if anything has changed there) . Interesting thing is that even dealers of the same manufacture differ, you might go to one place and their service will be awful but then go to a dealer in different area and it might be brilliant

Flip I laughed at this thread regarding the Toyota 86...

http://www.carforums.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=53041

I see a new thread every week on some of other car forum of guys ripping this poor car a new one because of it's lacklustre performance up in Gauteng.

I see a trubo charged BRZ running Ethanol ran an 11 sec 1/4 mile though! So lots possible with mods...

The other day, going home, getting on to the N1 S at Rivonia. A guy in a Golf 5 GTi decides he wants to show me what's what.

Those Golfs sure do look good ...

... in my rear view. ;)

I've had an Impreza try that just past the Jean ave off-ramp going to Pretoria- some or other safety car from a racetrack or something.
They just don't seem to grasp two-wheeled dynamics :P

I saw one trying to show off on a back road near sasolburg, later I found him with a cut tire and a damaged rim.....the potholes on some of those roads are very vicious and doing 160(he must have been doing something around there) does not help

Also saw a GT86 on the road the other day, looks much nicer than I thought

Hmmm, I think the 86 and BRZ are alright cars for the price and if I spent a lot of time at track days I would definitely consider one, but as an every day car no way.

I'm still thoroughly enjoying my GTI 6 though so will have it for quite some time still, all the comforts I could want and 214kW / 458nm on top when I wanna have some fun. :P

I didn't know only 6 BRZ's were brought to SA, that would make owning one much more exclusive and appealing...

Nice. Those old German saloons are awesome, you can pick e39 BMW's up for around the R60k - 90k mark and you are getting bucket loads of car for the money. As long as you buy a well cared for example it will be no less reliable than a brand new car and contrary to popular belief a BMW or a Merc are not hugely expensive to maintain

na, as long as you stay clear of the agent routine services are not too bad. Only if something big goes wrong does it become expensive
