I'm out of touch with what new cars cost in SA. The last time I looked was in 2013 and that was for a Figo which was R130K :? I drove a 25 year old merc for 7 years.

In terms of local pricing, this came in at less than the new Jimny (new) would have set me back. My besties have an X3 and a Honda CRV and I think they're questioning slightly whether they should have bought a Suburu   (much more so when it comes to the Honda)

In the forefront is my ride, a 2012 Holden Cruz - this model car was probably the reason the Australian automobile industry imploded. Unimpressive
Note the peeling tint - that's a performance enhancement. I'll get fined for that by the cops if they pull me over, but I'm a rebel.

My wife pimps the 2016 Hyundai Tucson in the background.

This is the best pic I have because I dont really give a crap about these cars other than keeping them serviced, insured and registered. I just want to go from point A to B
We've had them both from new and now have paid them off, which is my favourite thing about them and a reason the keep them as long as possible :D

100%! Opted for cheaper cars here that I could buy cash instead of any HP payments like I had in SA with that money trap GTI.

Interest rates here in AUS are amazing though, like 3% fixed interest for a home loan whereas in SA when I sold my house it was on 10.5% or so. In fact interest rates have dropped since we arrived as well.

I'm planning on keeping the Forestor for a while. I'd prefer to not have had a HP but it wasn't possible.

I drove a Holden Commodore for a week while my car was at the panel beater ( some **** backed into me and then tried to give me false information and avoid my calls    )

The commodore was impressively underwhelming. It was sluggish till you stood on the throttle, had too many bloody gadgets and felt cheap, really really cheap, but meant to look expensive cheap.

The latest Holden’s were just rebadged Chevrolet’s. They lost their soul when manufacturing left AUS, same as Ford, I have the last locally made Falcon model.

Loans in general here are ridic.
Unless we are talking about shady credit cards or scummy payday loans you have to struggle to NOT get a good deal.

It also helps cars are mostly cheap anyway, unless you want some imported or high-performance car...

I can't justify new car prices, which is why I own a 10 year old Civic and a 14 year old bike.
The plan is to keep these until the wheels fall off, and if at all possible, buy new wheels then and keep them. Wife has an 11 year old Q5 but I don't have a photo.

The Lurker doesn't have a set of wheels -- Wellington's public transport gets him everywhere he needs to be.

I did this until I started to find that commuting two hours just to see my friends, each way, was becoming a huge frustration.

Plus walking a kilometre in the summer heat is a recipe for heat stroke. 🙈

But if public transport wasn't quite as inconvenient, I'd use it again.

Dude, I'm in Greater Wellington as well (on the Kapiti Coast to be more precise)!

Pop over to the other end of SH 58. Bring beer. :P
