I thought this too, but no. The board for tagged users was 100m down the road and stated R1.20 (or something like that).

Honestly, if this morning's reports were anything to go by, you'd be less frustrated just getting a day pass and sticking to the highways. I know several people who took back roads this morning and found them significantly more congested than normal.

You have two boards? I've not noticed dual boards at any of the gantries around here. :?

There are discounted rates for non-registered users who pay within 30 days- some 60% and 60 days- 30%

I'm guessing you saw a discounted rate at the roadside.

there is also discounted prices if you travel under the gantry during certain times of the day and on a weekend...
and you get charged at a lower price if you register than if you don't register...

So that all sounds complicated. But the CPA clearly states that the consumer must pay the indicated price. So If they come with some BS story I will just refer them to the board showing a non-registered user rate of R 3.40. That should buy me even more time.

No. The technology on the gantry is able to read the vehicle number plate and/or e-tag at any speed.
Except if they're trying to pull the wool over our eyes?
What if they change the system post-launch? Upgrade the cameras (if necessary) and change the software. Just think about the sums of money that government contractors might charge to change the system!!! :WhyIsThereNoMoneyFallingFromTheSkySmiley:

There are two solutions one is called a grinder and the second is mud so now go implement it

links? Googling "mud" yields not usable reults, and grinder is not much better. In fact if you google them together you better not be at work...

 I can just imagine the combo you will get and it is rather straight forward solutions the one you use on the gantries and the other on the numberplates and windscreen where the licence disk is and no comments on spelling mistakes kay

I was wondering when someone would take spray paint to the gantry cameras. Either lead-based or depleted uranium... 8)

Spray paint?
Hmmm, nice low-tech solution...

'Borrow' a bus. (Not Putco, they break down)
Mount hoses and nozzles on top.
Mount borrowed compressor and paint inside.
Take joyride thru Mzansi, litterally painting the town red...

oh lol. Do I feel stupid.

hmm... you could actually spray the mud on your car, covering your plate and disk:" Sorry officer, I just came from the bush. I was on the way to the car wash..." Grinder to the gantries is optional...

E-tags mooted for KZN motorists
Dec 04 2013 07:47

Witness Reporter , The Witness

Durban - E-tags, the controversial wireless toll road payment system introduced in Gauteng this week, will be introduced into KwaZulu-Natal by 2014.

The 14 tollgates in KZN, through a phased approach beginning with the Mooi River toll plaza on the N3, will be introducing the e-tag facility.

R290m spent on Nkandla road - report
2013-12-04 09:25

Johannesburg - About R290m of taxpayers' money was spent on a road connecting President Jacob Zuma's hometown Nkandla to neighbouring town Kranskop, The Star reported on Wednesday.

This was revealed on Tuesday by Transport Minister Dipuo Peters in a Parliamentary reply to a question posed by the Inkatha Freedom Party.

"The provincial department of transport spent about R290m for the construction of the specified (Nkandla to Kranskop) road," Peters was quoted as saying.

This came as concerns over delays in the implementation of the Moloto Rail Corridor were mounting, The Star reported.
