Struggling to find that special someone? Try this method!

Pheromone Parties

If you haven't found love in a scentless place, maybe you're not looking in the right spots. But chances are you haven't exhausted all your options unless you've given a Pheromone Party a whirl.

These events pair people based on the scientific idea that we all create our own unique perfume, or pheromones, to attract mates. It works for insects, cats, and other creatures, so why wouldn't it work for humans? For $30, Pheromone Parties will help you find your next date, or perhaps the love of your life by smelling their stale, sweaty clothes. Which isn't that creepy, except for all of it.

To prepare for the natural scent shindig, you sleep in the same clean, white, cotton t-shirt for three nights in a row to bottle, or in this case bag, your own "odor print." You bring the stank shirt to the fête in a ziplock, which is given a number, with bags marked blue for boys and pink for girls.

Throughout the bash, you're invited to smell the shirts as you wish. Once you find the one that really gets you going, a photographer takes your picture with the bag of your choosing. The images are shown on a running slideshow, and if you see someone holding your number, then you've found your musk match. Speed dating for aspiring armpit fetishists: coming soon to a city near you! [Pheromone Parties via Good]
Okay then...

Actually....I was thinking this weekend that Axe deodorant might make their adverts more credible if they were to isolate and synthesise human pheromones, and then incorporate it into their range of deodorants.

/Yes, those are the sort of ideas I have sometimes.

It would probably smell kinda musky.... Google "Musk Deer" ;-)

/edit. You might also try immune system profiling, then shoving pairs of males and females with complementary immune systems together.

MOOD - Thirsty

A surprising amount of modern pseudoscience is coming out of the environmental sector. Perhaps it should not be so surprising given that environmentalism is political rather than scientific.

I wonder whether you could buy those locally. I'd like to try an experiment..... :whistling:

How much do chemistry sets go for these days?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure that Sheldon has already conducted said experiment... :whistling:

In what series? With my memory, it is quite possible that I have forgotten what happened in 1, 2 or the bit of 3 that has already been shown on SABC3.

Besides, I would feel compelled to try to replicate his results.

Why would Sheldon want to attract a mate though? Was this for Howard?

It could have been jamin, could it not?

^^ Season 2, episode 9:
Sheldon: New topic. Where are you in your menstrual cycle?
Penny: What?
Sheldon: I've been doing some research online, and apparently female primates, you know, uh... Apes, chimpanzees, you... They find their mate more desirable when he's being courted by another female. Now, this effect is intensified when the rival female is secreting the pheromones associated with ovulation. Which brings me back to my question, where are you in...?
[Penny slams the door in his face]
Sheldon: Clearly, I'm 14 days too early.

Eidetic memory ftw. :D

I think I would like Sheldon. I certainly wouldn't mind his "2600 years of Physics" lecture.

Firstly - eeeeew. Those pheromone parties sound awful!

Secondly - @Doo - if he has been using them for 8 years they really don't work very well. Either that or his personality chases the women away.

I remember that BBT episode - though it was only a small comment in the episode if I remember correctly.

It doesn't look as though humans have the necessary hardware to detect and process pheromones...

I would hazard a guess that most of what these people are smelling is a result of bacterial action on the waste products excreted during perspiration.

That is why I would rather isolate the pheromones themselves and play with those.
