Ubuntu or Mint or ...

Post by TheAlteredState »

Hey guys!

I've been out of this for a while and I'm looking to put Linux on a pc at home again for the hell of it and to be different ;)

I'm in a toss-up though between Ubuntu 11.10 and Mint 12. I see of late on Distro watch that Mint seems to be the more popular and seems to be more familiar to me when I run it in a vm, where as Ubuntu seems to have lots the plot somewhere.... I'm not sure... could also be this whole VM story and it's not giving me all the features...

Anyway, long story short, I wanted to know what Linux you guys prefer any why?

Mint, simply because everything works out of the box.

Cool, I put Mint on :)

Found a bug in Gnome3 though (so it would have happened in Ubuntu too), whenever I enable the ATI drivers, all my text in the menu's etc go all garbled! Really annoying!!!

Btw, doesn't Unity remind anyone of Mac? Seems like a bit of a knock-off to me :P

I had issues with ATI back in the day when I had Debian 4 (or 3?) installed. Not recently.

Kinda off topic....

Are there Linux drivers for the Huawei 3G modems? E220 to be precise. And of course a front-end would be nice as well.

A surprising amount of modern pseudoscience is coming out of the environmental sector. Perhaps it should not be so surprising given that environmentalism is political rather than scientific.

I haven't had any issues with my Huawei modem (not E220) in Ubuntu or Mint. Send me a PM and I could walk you through it when I have time.
