better hurry. I will be doing the same system with a HD6990 soon...

Those guys with 2600K and 2500K chips will easily be able to beat my score.

ill give it a shot this weekend if i get all my parts. i have no idea how powerful my rig will be exactly. is the challenge still on? or has someone here with a SB rig beat it already? or tried?

Unfortunatly a 6870 is no match for a gtx580 bro.... U should get a good score but don't reckon u will pass that score, cause 3dmark 11 isn't cpu senstive its very gpu senstive... So will be hard to beat that score dude... But give it a try and see where u get! Once ur rig is oc'ed u should get awesome benches!

I just ran 3DMark 11 and scored P4012 with the following components:
CPU: i5-2400 @ 3.5GHz
Asus GTX460 1GB @ 900/4300MHz
Intel DP67 BG mobo

My previous highest score was only P3759 with the CPU @ 3.3GHz and GPU @ 950/4160MHz

Apart from the CPU running at a higher speed and the GPU at a lower speed in the first test, the only other difference is that I upgraded my motherboard from an Intel "Cold Lake" (entry level H67) to the DP67BG "Barrage" (part of the Extreme series).

Now what I want to know is can the better motherboard be the reason why the score has gone so much higher?? Reason I'm asking is because there is not that much of a difference between the other settings, or is my logic failing me?

3d mark is very gpu sensitive! My friend has a i7 950 and 5850 gpu and he beats me in the total score. My cpu score is quite a bit higher than his but his gpu is a tiny bit faster than mine so he beats me. That's why killerbyte said I should beat his score on 3d mark 11 but my 6870 doesn't stand a chance against is gtx 580. So your mobo didn't make the difference in your score it was your gpu set at higher clocks.

I know it is and that is the part I don't understand. My GPU clock speed was set at 50MHz lower and yet my score jumped by more than 250 points, the memory was however 140MHz higher.

Low score settings(3759):
CPU: 3.3GHz
GPU: 950/4160MHz

High score settings(4012):
CPU: 3.5GHz
GPU: 900/4300MHz

The same happened in 3DMark06, where I use to average about 17500 (was always aiming to break the 18000 barrier), I did 21400? Here the only difference was my CPU running at 3.5GHz and not 3.3GHz and I can't see how this would have made such a huge difference. The GPU was running at the same settings (900/4300MHz).

Like I said the only major change in my system was the mobo, hence I came to the conclusion that this must be the culprit and if not, then what else could it be? I'm in no way complaining about the increase in my scores, just trying to reason why now suddenly...

O sorry I misread I see what you're saying! I'm not familiar with intel mobos but what's the difference between the 2? Look at a breakdown of your scores and see in which tests you're increasing.

As slim has said its very gpu sensitive... And I would assume that it is the mem overclock on the card that's the reason for the higher score... U increasing ur memory's bandwidth and the tests that utilize memory bandwidth could just be doing a lot better... Easiest way to find out is to set ur card and cpu identically to ur low score settings and see if ur score is similar... Will vary in points but should score roughly 37xx to early 38xx. If not and u sure the only thing uv changed is ur mobo then ur answer will be clear...

Ok, so I ran 3DMark11 with all the settings exactly the same as one of my older tests.

The settings were as follows:
CPU: 3.1HGz
GPU: 849/4300MHz

On the original test I scored 3482 and with the test I just ran it went up to 3800 (average), that is a jump of more than 300 points!!

Like I said the only difference in my system is that I upgraded the mobo from an H67 chipset to a P67 chipset, so I have to come to the conclusion that the mobo does have an impact and suddenly I'm very happy that I made the choice to purchae it.

Now the fun begins, as I want to see just how far I can push my system... Will post the scores as they come.

@ The_Jelly: Probably a stupid question, but I notice you can view your scores directly in 3Dmark, whilst I can only view it online. Did you buy a retail edition disc or a license from them?

And somewhat off topic, what fans are those in your case (make/model and size)? I'm guessing it's CM...

Very nice score indeed :!:
