AMD X2 3800+ Overclocking

Post by maxxis »

Finally started overclocking my 3800+

A bit scary cause all the X2 / HTT / FSB / Mem timings etc is all new to me.

Running Prime95 stable at 2.4 on stock volts. Torture testing with max temp at 49.

What is everybody else getting.

Post you Core, Speed and cooling.

Ok. Ive been running the X2 on 2400 for that last few days with no instability problems.

3DMark05 performance increase is minute. Only about 30 points in total.

Im scoring 5580 with the overclock. Can this be right?

Ram timings are 2.5 :: 3 :: 3 :: 7

A few more questions.

Ive noticed when clocking the cpu back to stock my ram according to CPUZ is at 166 while with the overclock it runs full 200. Ram divider is 2:1

All four banks on the mobo is fitted with 512mb DDR400 chips. I thougth the CPU Ram controller issues where a thing of the past. My gf's AMD 3500 also has 2 gigs fitted via all 4 slots on the mobo.

Also my idle temp is about 42 and max load is 50. Is this ok for day to day usage.

Update: SuperPi 37sec for 1M calculation

Some guys are apparently running 4x DIMM's at 1T but most are still complaining, only managing 2T.

2x 1Gb dual-channel seems best for AMD platforms.

I cant even find the 1T setting in the Bios. Strange how my GF's machine is running the ram at 200

Freq: 2.5Ghz 250HTT x 10
Core: Manchester E4 stepping
Temp: 52C with 2 instances on Prime95 with affinities set after about 2 hours
VCore: 1.55V
Cooling: Thermaltake Big Typhoon

Can get to 2.6Ghz Prime95 stable on the windows desktop but my PSU can't take running the graphics card and CPU OCd at the same time.

I can OC my 4400+ to:
Freq: 2530Mhz, 230HTT x 11
Ram Timings 2.2.2.5
Core: Toledo
Vcore: 1.55V

Dumb Q: Whats the highest you can set your Vcore to without it being dangerous?

The higher you push vcore, the higher your CPU temps will be. It's dangerous when your CPU temps are dangerous.

I have OC'd mine to 2.8 on stock cooling and it ran fine for 10 minutes then froze.....try turning down your HT link to 4x it helps with the stability issue but not with the heat...how much voltage did u give ur cpu?

Mine is running at 2.7 with 1.5 and 102% cpu VID special control just incase it needs more..

That's quite a lot of volts for stock cooling.

What's the multi on the 3800? 10? 2GHZ stock yes?

So, 10*280 = 2800, so you have to drop your HT Divider to 3, cause your HT Link needs to stay below 1000.

You can use Orthos, OCCT, Super Pi (32M), Memtest, prime95 aswell as the 3D Mark applications. They all seem to have their own advantages to test stability.

Yep, I'd try orthos and then 3DMark 03
