Intel K-series overclocking

Post by StarBound »

I am just wondering how does the intel i7/i5 K series CPUs overclock? Do you set the multiplier higher or do you still need to fiddle with base clocks?

Slapping in another question. When overclocking your system do you disable turbo boost? And does your cpu still throttle up and down depending on usage?

You mainly adjust the multiplier, once you've hit your maximum then you start on your base clock. I only use my base clock in my 4.9ghz profile. The multi is x48 but I compensate with the base clock, it keeps my temps in check and doesn't demand such a high step up in voltage.

And Starbound, I've heard that disabling the turbo boost doesn't make a difference in stability so I've always kept mine on. In idle my cpu sits at 1.6Ghz and when there's a load present it jumps up to 4.6ghz (my 24/7 clock). I've never seen it between 1.6 or 4.6, meaning the clock doesn't increase directly proportional to the load you're placing on it.
