20 mhz Increase really made that difference?

Post by Ashlee Smith »

Hey guys so i have a MSI R6670 1 gb GDDR5 800 mhz core clock Memory clock is 1000mhz.
I used MSI After Burner to O.C it (note: this is my first real time over clocking a graphics card however i have spent almost 2 weeks researching how to and what to monitor etc)

SO this is it:
Stock:
Battlefield Bad company 2
1400 by 900 75 hz
All high 4 x AA 4 x AF Vsync ON HBAO ON
Average: 32 min 16
15 minutes + - on Level Up the river in the beginning when you assault that guerilla holding. Lots of environment and shooting.

O.C
Average: 39 min 19
15 min + - on Level Up the river in the beginning when you assault that guerilla holding. Lots of environment and shooting.
Findings:
The game play was so much smoother than before can not believe it temps increased by 2 degrees celcius (49-52)

So i ask would 20mhz increase REALLY make that difference or am i reading into it wrong?

Not an OC guru, but that's weird stuff, I reckon it could possibly happen...I mean, I have a similar (unsolved) case of where, when I had one graphics card in, a certain game was almost unplayable, but put a second card in of the same make, not connected to anything and it was smooth as can be :? Answer that one...

Well I'm guessing it was 20Mhz to the core clock? Remember first of all your effective OC isn't 20Mhz because its GDDR5. But that's not important, 20Mhz shouldn't really make much of an improvent, your 7FPS isn't that big but its 7FPS for free and you're only just starting out! You can push your card much further. You can have a look at your performance improvent by using 3D Mark Vantage. This should give you a good indication of the OC and how stable it is. I can help you out if you want, drop me a PM and we can get your GPU running smooth:)
