Post by Sabs1ZN »

i just got my i7 2600 today,i started it up and went straight into the bios setup to check my temperatures,my cpu is running at 72degrees with fan at about 1100rpm...is this normal for idle temperatures or is something wrong?

Something very wrong :!: Give us some more info on your system please...

Idle temps should be about 30c, give or take a few degrees. You sure that the cooler is set properly on the CPU? Also have you installed any software to monitor the temps, if so what are they reading?

Try removing all the pre applied thermal paste and apply new thermal paste to the CPU. might be that the base of the cooler is not level, causing it not to make proper contact with the CPU.

To be honest, I wouldn't bet my life on the bios temps, but have a look at the CPU fan settings in your bios, perhaps turn it up a bit and use the bios readings as a gauge to see if it helps. The ideal would be if you can install something like RealTemp or whatever it's called to check the temps.

My money is still on the cooler not making proper contact with the CPU.

The bios temps aren't 100% accurate but its not 40 degrees wrong either. I'm guessing your using the stock cooler? Take your cooler off and put it back onto the cpu. Making special care that its sitting flat and tight against the cpu. Check ther temps again.
If you still have problems then buy yourself some thermal paste. Then scrape the old stuff off and put that on. We can explain how to apply thermal paste once you've bought it

thanks guys for your'll input,i tryed wat ul said but it still the same,i took the stock cooler out scraped the paste and put some new paste, tightened the cooler and made sure it was properly seated and the readings are the same

wat are the approximate temperatures my cpu should be running at?

my bios is showing the cpu at 72degrees C and at fan speed 1100rpm...is this fan speed to slow?

That's about the right rpm. My cooler idles at 20% which is 1138rpm. Temps vary between 27 and 35. How much paste do you use? And how do you apply it?

I haven't heard of cpus getting too hot but I could be wrong. Google it and see if other guyas have had an overheating cpu.
Your method should work, when you took your cooler off was the paste spread evenly?

yeah it was quite evenly spread...most of the other guys wer abt 50-60degrees in the bios and they installed windows and ran realtemp and got idle temps between 30-40 and on load between 60-70...

Can anyone with the same cpu and stock cooler tell me wat their temps are and does anyone know wat is approximate temperatures for an 17 2600 with stock cooler(idle and under load)?

I'm using stock cooler and my temps are 32 and 60. run your machine at full load for about half hour and see if it restarts/stalls/bsod. if it doesn't then your board is prob reporting incorrect temps. someone with an intel board should tell you what their temps are.

but from what I read on the net one guy had the same problem as you, out of the four pins that hold the cooler, one wasn't properly inserted, when he pressed the pin in correctly then his temps were normal.

Well why don't you install windows and realtemp and see what you get? Windows will report proper temps.

I'm using an Intel board and my temps in the BIOS show about 40c, but my CPU is clocked at the moment.

Could it perhaps be that the temp probe on the board is faulty, or perhaps reporting in Fahrenheit (wild shot in the dark on this one)?

Like Slim said, install Windows and Realtemp and take it from there.

Well I usae core temp. And I have a sidebar gadget to go with it. So my cpu usage and temps are displayed on my desktop. you can try another program to give you peace of mind but it should be the same. My bios tells me 51, where its actually 33. I've never taken note of my bios temps before:)

No dude your cpu is 100% percent. I wouldn't worry about it. Id trust the software over the bios. If my bios temps were right my cpu would probably be fried by now

DId you come right with your i7? Mine was exactly the same temps when I installed it with the stock cooler... Took it off and found the cooler seems "warped" for lack of a better word and was barely making any contact with the cpu. I could tell because after taking it off, i could see the thermal paste trasfer from heatsink to CPU. Even after about 5 appempts to re apply thermal paste it was still like that....So got a another cooler, and its running about about 27 idle and 55 load

I still rekon there is something dodgy with the stock i7 coolers... while i've only ever used stock coolers for every CPU i've had, they have always (despite running a tad warm on some CPU's) done the job. Though the switch to an aftermarket cooler, i can see the difference between that and stock.
