Disable all sounds. This can improve start up and shutdown times.
Msconfig. To disable all startup apps that you don't need and increase boot time.

Will type out more later...

Get a good system cleaner.

Something like Ccleaner to clean your temp files and registry for you. Works like a charm for me. Every time I install or uninstall something, I run it. I helps keep my pc clean and free of rogue files and bloated registries.

Personally I disable the following...
Bit Defender
Auto Updates(I select what I want)
System Restore
Firewall
Under Folder Options\View\The top box(Untick it)(Should read Auto search the network folder and printers)
Right Clicking on your Hard Drive and Unticking (Allow Index Service(will be at the bottom of the box) If it pops up with an error, click ignore all.
If you copy files all over your PC alot, a monthly Defrag is recommended.

I also use a lil memory app called, Max Mem. Been using it for aboot 6 or 7 years now.
What it does is uses all available memory when you are playing a game/heavy resource app. And when it quits the game, frees up that memory as most it can so your windows will have more to use...

If you knoes how to use it, you can tweak your BIOS quite nicely aswell.

Thinking what else I do...

I must be an idiot or something, but I have just tried Max Mem and my office system immediately slowed down to a crawl. Had to restart. :?

I left it on default. I'll give aggressive and your settings a try tomorrow then, thanks.

Game booster is also an awesome app its freeware and is very small... What it does is it shuts down unnecessary services and free's up memory.... Its mainly used before opening a game...

Ya gamebooster works well, and defrag frequently. You could also remove protocols u don't use and windows components u just never ever use?
