Guess I'm forced to answer now :?

Okay

Here's a graph or two

Image

Image

That already puts the Thermalright in the lead

So

Thermalright HR-03 Plus

Pro's

Outperforms the opponent
You get to choose your fan
Looks great
Heatsinks you recieve are substantially bigger
6 vs 4 Heatpipes
Thicker fins
Better fin design
Heatsink can be mounted in two ways
Cheaper than the Zalman

Cons

You have to buy an extra fan, making it more expensive in the end
It uses a lot of PCI slots

So my vote definately goes to the Thermalright HR-03

but size is a big factor since I have a second sound card in my PC.

what do you think about me getting the zalman and removing the fan and attaching 2 80mm fan's on the top.

the thermalright is the king but its SIZE :(

I still think the Thermalright is better

You can also mount the card in your bottom PCI-E slot and mount the cooler like this

here is a picture of what the card looks like with the thermalright installed the first way

here is the pic of that same system, and notice it has an Enzotech ultra X which is the same cooler I have, notice the lack of space.

So, put your card in your bottom PCI-E slot

Ps. You ask for my opinion and then shoot it down. I don't get it :\

thanx lancelot.

if I moved my card down to the bottom slot and then bought a thermalright, and mounted it on the top and got a nice looking fan that performed well.

i'd install my vantec fan card below the card to cool the ram sinks and HIS heatsink. this could be a very impressive setup.

now i need to consider weight and cost.
the cost of the thermalright is slightly cheaper than the zalman but then you have to buy a better fan, now if I buy a zalman and use two better fans then i could make a mammoth out of a mouse.

Dude, serriously forget about the zalman, ANY way you look at it Thermalright > Zalman... Its well know that the thermalright is THE BEST, so get it and not end up with something you will be dissapointed in in the long run, anyway it looks cooler  8)

if you want max CFM from a fan avalible in S.A. i would say enermax warp 120mm. 83cfm  otherwise a normal antec tricool would be good

okay, it doesn't HAVE to be a 92mm, but it was designed with a 92mm in mind.

The lower PCI-E slot on P965 and P35 boards runs at 4x. I doubt that it will make a big difference to frame rates though. If you try it, please post some benchies.

the more I look at it the more I'm thinking I should go with the lower profile design of the Zalman, I will keep looking, but basically I was thinking of turning that zalman into something similar to the CM Gemini II but obviously smaller. what does every one think of that idea?

and another contender enters the fray.

MACS TEC VGA Cooler

This cooler comes on the Sparkle 8800GTX and makes it cooler than the stock temps on a Asus 8800GTS.

go for the zalman, its obviously what you want to hear.

but if you want the best performance, go for the thermalright, and a nice fan (try put the biggest fan you can on there, if you can fit a 120mm, go for it, it will run slower and make less noise, whilst moving more air).
If you want a 92mm fan, you going to battle to get a decent one in SA from what I have seen.
