Windows 7 will not connect to Dlink 2750U Wifi

Post by StarPhoenix »

My mother's Dlink 2640U was damaged during a recent storm, so I bought her a Dlink 2750U to replace it.
Unfortunately, although both my Kindle and my Nintendo 3DS can connect to the router wirelessly, her Compaq 610 laptop will not connect to the wireless network. I'm convinced that Windows can see my wireless network, as it shows up at full strength in the wireless adaptor widget in the system tray. When I click on the connect button here, "Connect to a network" returns the message: "Windows was unable to connect to [SSID]"

I have MAC address filtering enabled, but have added the laptop's physical address to the relevant list, and checked it several times to make sure that I did not make a mistake when entering it.

I have also made sure that I entered the WPA2-PSK AES key correctly.

Please could you try to help me to get this up and running for my mother-she is missing her internet connection.

Thank you.

Have you tried increasing the wireless device limit?

Um....where would I find that setting?

Max clients was already set to 16 on router. Dunno if that is what you were talking about.

Then somewhere something is not communicating properly. I assume you restarted both laptop and router and have them try to connect from a fresh start?

BTW SSID is case sensitive. I had a lower case in one of my hidden SSIDs and it didnt want to know anything.

Maybe try disabling the MAC filter and see if that allows for a connection? I know my router tells me that my PC's MAC is invalid whenever I try to input it into the router .

Maybe try uninstalling the network card driver and installing the latest version after a reboot?

Hmmm.....the laptop does seem to see and connect [well, it connects for a while, then disconnects, then reconnects] to my router when I boot up using an Ubuntu Live CD....could not connect to the internet, but that may be because my internet connection has been dropping everty few minutes.

Trying to remember whether I disabled MAC address filtering.....I know that I did try it using an open WEP network to no available....hyave been sitting with this for what feels like hours [unskilled labour  ]

Uninstalled the driver for the Intel wireless chip. Windows said that reinstallation was unsuccessful.

Fixed! Anakha, jou doring!

So I take it uninstalling & reinstalling the driver actually helped?
